Kashmera Shah debuted in Hindi films with Yes Boss (1997), which had released 25 years ago. Ever since, she has worked in several memorable films like Pyar To Hona Hi Tha (1998), Jungle (2000), Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye (2000), Hera Pheri (2000), Wake Up Sid (2009) etc. She also appeared in several dance numbers in films like Vaastav (1999), Kurukshetra (2000), Aankhen (2002), Murder (2004) etc. Moreover, she got a chance to work with prominent filmmakers like Aziz Mirza, Priyadarshan, Mahesh Manjrekar, David Dhawan, Anurag Basu, Pooja Bhatt, among several others.

In an exclusive interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Kashmera Shah made it clear that she is satisfied with her stint in the film industry. She said, “I am very happy with my journey. I got a lot of good work. At that time, people were keener on having a fair woman as the protagonist. Yet, I still made a mark. I did a film like Jungle or Pyar To Hona Hi Tha (1998) or Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye (2000) with Salman Khan wherein I had a fabulous time with the unit. Hence, I did so many good films as an actor as well as a dancer. In fact, after doing 7-8 super-hit songs, nobody considered me a dancer. They looked at me as an actor because I was always acting in those songs. As a result, I love the Bollywood love industry and am very possessive about it.”

Kashmera Shah continued, “Agar koi Bollywood ke against bolta hai ya nepotism ki baat karta hai, toh main bahut hi personally leti hoon iss baat ko because I am a living proof of the fact that nepotism never matters. I was good and hence I got work, thereby helping me shine in this industry. Hence, I don’t like people talking against it.”

Besides acting, Kashmera Shah also turned writer for the Indo-Western film My Bollywood Bride (2006) and director and producer with Marne Bhi Do Yaaron (2019). Her second film, Shirman Aishwarya Rai, starring Shreyas Talpade and hubby Krushna Abhishek, was shot last year and is ready.

When asked when it’ll release, she replied, “It’ll be out soon. We are on the verge of closing the sale. Once that happens, I am going to release the trailer and throw a huge party. I have now transitioned from being an actor to a director. Of course, I am still acting. I am enjoying directing and I am trying to make light-hearted, feel-good and funny films. As a director, I still have a lot to learn. I have another film that I have signed as a director. And it’s not under Boo Films, my home production. It’s being produced by an independent, A-grade producer. He signed me after watching Shriman Aishwarya Rai.”

Kashmera Shah promises that Shirman Aishwarya Rai, just like the title of the film, is very enticing. She adds, “It’s also about friendship and the film industry. I got tired of people talking against the industry. I wanted to advocate that iss industry mein friendship bahut important hai and people do care for each other. People get work for being good artists, and not for being somebody’s sons or daughters. The latter also happens. But usse koi fark nahi padta. Kal ko mera beta actor banna chahta hai, toh kya aap usko nepotism kahoge? Uske toh khoon mein hi acting aur dance karna hoga na. Moreover, doctor ka beta bhi doctor hi banta hai na. But that’s acceptable for some reason!”

Meanwhile, July 2022 seems to be a landmark month for her. She completed 25 years in the industry on July 18 and now on July 24, she and Krushna Abhishek will celebrate their 10th marriage anniversary. The couple got married impulsively in Las Vegas, the USA on July 24, 2012.

Talking about it and her anniversary plans, Kashmera Shah said, “We have lived-in together for 15 years. We got married quite late in 2012. If we do a get-together for our 10th anniversary, I’ll 100% call the media because the media has been very good to me since the time I started working 25 years ago. Media is a big part of our journey (smiles).”
