EXCLUSIVE: Uunchai actress Neena Gupta says “Pehle aisi gandi films bhi ki hain jo main chahti thi release na ho” while talking about her old movies : Bollywood News

Known for calling out patriarchy and doing roles that break stereotypes, Neena Gupta has never shied away from calling spade a spade. From doing shows like Masaba Masaba to playing some of the most popular characters on the big screen in recent times, the actress is on a career-high at the age of 60.

The actress is known for doing unconventional roles and creates magic with each one of them. During an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama for her forthcoming film Uunchai, the veteran actress talked about her selection in films and how she also did some not-so-good roles back in the day.

“Dekho, mere paas zyaada choice nahi hoti ki main yeh choose karri hoon. Fortunately, yeh hua hai ab ki mere paas accha content aa raha hai. [See, I don’t usually have a choice in choosing films. Fortunately, now I’ve been getting good content.],” Neena said.

She continued, “Pehle to maine bohot aisi films bhi ki hai jo main pray karti thi ki bhagwaan yeh release hi na ho. Aise gande gande role, gande gande films maine ki hai. [Back in the day, I did so many not-so-good films, so much so that I often used to pray that they don’t end up releasing. The roles and films were that bad.]”

“Mujhe jo accha lagta hai main karti hoon, jo mere mann ko nahi bhaata vo main nahi karti, ab. Ek zamaane me jo bhi aata tha karna padhta tha. Ab jo yahaan se theek nahi lagta vo nahi karti. [Now, I just do the films that I genuinely like. There was a time when I had to do any kind of roles that came to me. Now, the ones which don’t feel right to me in the heart, I don’t do them.]”

Speaking of Uunchai, produced by Rajshri Productions and directed by Sooraj Barjatya, the film tells the story of three friends who decide to fulfill the last wish of their fourth friend at any cost – which is to climb Mt. Everest. With Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, and Anupam Kher in the lead, the film also features Parineeti Chopra as their guide.

Uunchai is slated to release on November 11.
