EXCLUSIVE: Urmila Matondkar says, “The industry does not consist of 4-5 people, calling it a drugs nexus is wrong”

The industry has been on the radar and one of the hot topics for people to discuss, however ever since Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, the drugs angle of his death case has led to a lot of other conversations that shows the entire industry in a very bad light. While there are others who claim that almost all celebrities consume drugs, there are those who have been standing tall in support of the industry that has provided for millions of people over the years. There are celebrities who have been claiming that it is unfair to vilify the entire industry based on the actions of a few.

EXCLUSIVE: Urmila Matondkar says, “The industry does not consist of 4-5 people, calling it a drugs nexus is wrong”

Urmila Matondkar in her exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama said, “I find this habit despising with the kind of claims that people have been making these days. It has substantially increased these days but to claim that the entire industry uses drugs is wrong. The kind of image that is being projected for people is completely unjust. Showing the industry as the nexus of drugs is not true and it is not like that the industry only consists of 4-5 people, it comprises of people from technicians to other hard working people. It is an amazing industry that is not in this country, but is internationally known for its work. People come from various places with big dreams in this industry and I used to be one of them and the film industry has always collectively taken people ahead but given that you work extremely hard for it along with a dash of luck.”

“There are multiple examples of such people including Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, to Deepika Padukone from recent times, they have made a name for themselves. You think Akshay Kumar has had it easy? Do you have any clue of the kind of struggles that Akshay Kumar went through? There’s Tiger Shroff today, despite being a star kid, he has learned parkour, he’s a black belt and has worked really hard even in dancing. Now, if you don’t like his performance or acting that’s a different thing, but he has also worked very hard. What I mean to say is, that the way it is being projected that everybody in the industry is into drugs and are junkies, it is a very unfair thing to say. In fact, the people from the industry are very vulnerable and we are in dire need of feeling secured because whatever you say, you are questioned for it. So, you have to be very vulnerable because this is where you become a star or lose it all overnight. So, the highs and lows are extreme and to deal with them is difficult. According to me, what is needed is for people to have a little more understanding that the industry people go through a lot and if some of them consume drugs then they should be held responsible for their actions. But to assume everyone is a druggie is wrong, because this industry has given us a lot of stars and movies.”

She concluded by saying, “I am not a media made star, I am a people made star. I said this back in 1992-93 and I would say it till my last breath. But I would request people to understand that when they speak ill of a film or a celebrity, they’re nullifying the hard work of a lot of people, so, you’re bringing all of that down and it is not in good taste.”
