Following the release of Ek Villain Returns, Arjun Kapoor recently spoke at length about the film industry, the boycott trends, the massive trolling and more. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, the actor talked about the audience’s perception, immense box office validation faced and the toxic environment surrounding films.
EXCLUSIVE: “There are people enjoying the film that means you must service them more rather than always trying to appease the people who will never be appeased by you,” says Arjun Kapoor on the toxic environment surrounding films
“When you know the situation is intense when films are not doing well beyond Monday, after the weekend, to be able to get solid numbers, to be able to get mass audience is a major validation,” the Ek Villain Returns actor said of films facing box immense office validation. “Because at the end of the day, you are working for the audience when you're doing a theatrical film. Then you’re not only thinking what others around you think of your film, you also think about connecting to the common man’s taste. And it’s been so long that you also wonder whether you'll connect.”
“So, it's very, very important and it’s real,” he added. “All the chatter and controversy around the film is on one side, eventually the public is the deciding factor. Face value is not enough today obviously but at the same time your face is something that they like watching in the right film, that is very important to know so, that is very gratifying. And it's very important for actors because we have to face a lot.”
Drawing parallels to the toxic environment surrounding films, with life in general, Arjun said, “We live in this atmosphere today where the environment may turn toxic very easily, in no time. There are people from different corners of the country who are spending their hard-earned money to watch the film. They are reacting to it and they are enjoying the film that means you must service them more rather than always trying to just appease the people who will never be appeased by you anyway.”
Meanwhile, Arjun Kapoor was most recently seen in Ek Villain Returns with John Abraham, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria. The actor will next star in The Ladykiller and Kuttey.
