EXCLUSIVE: Taapsee Pannu on playing visually impaired role in Blurr; says, “It’s very sad to know that people actually go through it” : Bollywood News

Taapsee Pannu starrer psychological thriller Blurr released directly on digital on December 9, 2022 on ZEE5. Directed by Ajay Bahl, Blurr is a narrative that follows the story of twin sisters, Gayatri - Gautami and their encounters with the unknown world due to loss of sight. The actress spoke about how she got into the skin of the character.

When asked if she knew about progressive vision loss disease prior to the film, she said, “No, actually I wasn’t. Well, there are so many kind of illnesses we are unaware of in this world and this is one of them and it’s very sad to know that people actually go through it.”

This film revolves around Gayatri who is slowly losing her sight whilst trying to investigate the death of her twin sister - Gautami. Speaking about she got into the skin of the character, Pannu added, “There is one statement in this film that helped me work on the character which said ‘Gayatri joh thi woh duniya dekhna chahti aur joh Gautami thi woh chahti ki duniya usey dekhe’. I think that one line really helped me to understand the two characters and try to do whatever little I could do to differentiate between the two.”

Further probed about whether it was difficult to play a visually impaired character, she said, “The thing is that my character is not blind from the word ‘Go’. She slowly loses vision hence it should not look superficial like she was prepared to be blind. So, I tried to actually get under the skin of a visually impaired person by either wearing those contact lenses that would hinder my vision and make me see nothing or using those bandages with cotton inside that blocks my eyesight. That was the only way I could feel closer to the character and authentically portray a blind person since she was not someone who was prepared to be blind, she encountered it.”
