Bollywood director Sooraj Barjatya is known for making elaborate family dramas that focus on the dynamics of a typical Indian family. Barjatya has delivered some iconic family films under his production banner Rajshri. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker talked about the production banner while narrating the story behind the construction of the Rajshri preview theatre.

For the unversed, the interview was held at the preview theatre. When we asked the filmmaker to talk more about it, he asserted, “this was built in 1971. This is I think the first preview theatre, which is private. That time it was made because we use to distribute a lot of movies.”

Recalling the incident because of which his grandfather and father decided to build the preview theatre, he revealed, “Mere grandfather ko ek baar ghanta bhar baarish mai wait karna pada. Toh mere father ne kaha unkey liye aisi jagah honi chahiye jahan wait nahi karna padey (Once my grandfather had to wait for an hour on a rainy day to watch a film. So, my dad decided to build a place for him where he didn’t have to wait).

He further added, “Bhot yaadien judi hai (a lot of memories are there),” while mentioning that he exactly knows on which chair, which star sat. He recalled late actor Dilip Kumar had visited for the screening of Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

The 58-year-old filmmaker is gearing up for his next directorial, titled Uunchai. The upcoming film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, and Boman Irani in the lead. It is slated to release on November 11.
