EXCLUSIVE: Sooraj Barjatya calls Uunchai a family film at its core; says, ‘Shot outdoors this way first time’ : Bollywood News

Director Sooraj Barjatya has given some of the most iconic family-dramas in Bollywood. His films were no less than a celebration of relationships, values, and Indian culture. However, when the poster of his next directorial Uunchai was released, it left many puzzled yet excited. In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the director spoke about taking a different route this time.

We asked him what the audience should expect from Uunchai, as a usual Sooraj Barjatya film is all about weddings, and Salman Khan. In his response, Barjatya asserted, “Uunchai alag bhi hai par at core family film hi hai. But haan, ek graduation hai mere liye as a director. Ismai sahanubhutiya wahi hai, bhavnaien wahi hai, family viewing wahi hai (Uunchai is different, but is a family film at its core. As a director, I graduated with this film. It indeed has sympathy, emotions and family vieweing.)”

He further elaborated, “Jo normally ghar ka set hota hai. I normally have my studio floors. Idhar maine pehli baar outdoor kiya hai. Nepal gaya, Kanpur gaya, Gorakhpur gaya, Lucknow gaya. There is no proper hero-heroine song also.”

Then he revealed that the story of the film stuck with him. Recalling the nationwide lockdown, Barjatya added that it proved that a real hero is a person who is courageous. And, when he found that courage in Uunchai, he was unable to let it go. Thus, he thought of telling a courageous story with fun and laughter.

Talking about Uunchai, the film is slated to release on November 11. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, and Boman Irani in the lead. It explores the story of three friends, who decide to climb Mount Everest to fulfil the last wish of their late friend.
