Sonakshi Sinha, known for her versatile performances, is venturing into new territory with her Telugu debut film Jatadhara, where she portrays the formidable Dhan Pishachini a demon goddess of wealth. The role proved to be one of the most physically demanding of her career, pushing the actor to new limits.
In a candid interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sonakshi revealed, “I'm playing a full-fledged fearsome antagonist for the first time and, pretty antagonist. Yeah, like a deadly muscular.”
Explaining her character further, she shared, “It starts from a woman who is extremely greedy for money, fed up of her very mediocre life and for the money what all she does and what all happens in life. And I think pretty much it is the story of a lot of people that we talk… that with the society that we live in.”
Speaking about the demanding shoot, Sonakshi said, “From my experience and the parts that I shot, it was not easy at all. First, I had to sit for three hours to get ready, and I was under the weight of the costume and the jewellery. Then they would tangle me all day long in the harness while we were doing those action sequences. It was definitely not easy for me. It was physically very, very challenging. But again, when you finally end up seeing something and see yourself looking so different and doing something so different, it all just feels very worth it at the end of the day and I feel that's what's important.”
Adding further perspective, Sonakshi elaborated on the physical aspects of the role, stating, “It used to take me three hours to get ready and go on set. I used to wear that saree, and underneath it, a harness. Then there was around 50 kilos of jewellery on me, and they had to stitch every piece onto me so that it wouldn’t move during the action sequences.”
Sonakshi’s reflections on the intense preparation and physical endurance required for Jatadhara highlight her dedication and commitment to the craft. Her transformation into Dhan Pishachini marks not just a new phase in her career but also reflects the evolving scope of Indian cinema, where actors are constantly pushing boundaries to bring larger-than-life characters to the screen.
