Tridha Choudhury began her work in the Bengali film industry and also worked down South as well as in the TV show, Dahleez. She later became a household name with her role as Babita in the Bobby Deol-starrer Aashram. She is one of the leading ladies in this week’s Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, opposite Kapil Sharma. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, conducted a day before the release, the beautiful and talented Tridha spoke about her experience and a lot more.

How did you bag the role in Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2? Were you always offered Meera, or did the makers consider you for some other role?
The makers always wanted me to play Meera. I met director Anukalp Goswami sir and Kapil Sharma, sir, for the first time on the sets of The Kapil Sharma Show when we had gone for the promotions of Aashram. This is when Anukalp expressed a desire to work with me. Kapil also said in jest, ‘Kaash mujhe Bobby Deol waala role mil jaaye’. I told him, ‘If I ever sign a comedy film, I hope it’s with you’ (smiles).
When I got the offer, I was not very sure, as a lot of times, the project doesn’t transpire. So, I DMed Kapil Sharma on Instagram (smiles). I wrote, ‘Sorry for messaging all of a sudden and I hope you are well, but just wanted to check about this film. Certain insiders have reached out to me. I just want to know if the project is genuine’. In 3 days, he replied to me, ‘Your meeting is confirmed. Aap Anukalp bhai se mil lo. Good luck’!
I took that chance of writing to him. He may have chosen not to reply. But he did give me the confidence to approach the film with dignity. This is an interesting anecdote which I haven’t shared, as no one ever asked me. But the fact is that Kapil has a pivotal role since he accelerated it for me.

How is Kapil Sharma on the sets? Does he always display quick-witted humour all the time?
Sach bolu toh poore contrasting character hai hamare bhai sahab (smiles). As his character Mohan, he’s very chirpy on screen. However, as Kapil Sharma he’s actually very reserved. People expect high-octane comedy from him all the time. But koi insaan har time thodi aisa kar sakta hai? And the less a person speaks, the more powerful that person is, in my opinion. So, he prefers to conserve his energy and is chup-chaap on the sets. He once jokingly told someone, ‘Yaar comedian hoon toh kya main thodi hamesha hasata rahunga? Tum log mujhe hasao’ (laughs). Nevertheless, he’s a fun and jovial person to work with.
He exudes positivity and that’s why millions of people have connected with him…
100%. He has achieved a lot in life. Yet, he’s always humble. For instance, there’s a child artist in the film and there were times when he goofed up. But he was fine with it and never said ‘I won’t give more than 3-4 takes’. A lot of big actors behave that way as they want to fast-track that process. This is what I really appreciate about Kapil – he’s very involved in every scene.
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 is your first big theatrical release in Hindi. How does it feel?
I believe that mainstream cinema was due for me. I am not saying in the sense that ‘mujhe karna chahiye tha’. It’s just that I have felt that I was always meant for the mainstream. I have always done characters that excited me, the ones in the real and serious zone. But once in a while, you do want to dabble in the fun, entertainment space. You need escapism. Now, I want to focus on such characters.
