Actor and host Shekhar Suman recently revisited a personal memory involving Shah Rukh Khan during an exclusive interaction with Bollywood Hungama. The conversation, which covered his career journey, evolving content trends, and the launch of his acting institute, also included an anecdote from the time Khan was working on Chalte Chalte.
Recalling the incident, Suman shared how he was approached directly by Shah Rukh Khan for a voiceover segment in the film’s promotional material. “I remember when Shah Rukh was making Chalte Chalte. He needed my voice for the commentary in the film somewhere in the teaser. He called me up directly and said, ‘Hi, this is Shah Rukh,’ and I said, ‘Yeah Shah Rukh.’ He said, ‘I would want you to come and just give your voice over for this,’ and I said yes. So I just went across and did that,” he said.
Suman added that the gesture initially felt informal and rooted in friendship rather than a professional arrangement. However, he was surprised when the actor sent him a payment. “He sent me a big cheque and I said, ‘Look, this is between two friends, this is not for money at all.’ But he wouldn’t listen,” Suman recalled.
According to the actor, Shah Rukh Khan later followed it up with a more personal gesture. “He sent me a very expensive watch the next time, which I still have. It’s a beautiful memento,” he said, describing the gift as something he continues to value.
Beyond the anecdote, Suman spoke about his long-standing career in the entertainment industry and how he continues to view himself primarily as an actor, even while hosting or exploring other formats. He also discussed the current OTT landscape, the changing nature of comedy, and the emergence of new talent across platforms.
The interaction comes shortly after Suman launched the Shekhar Suman Film Academy, an initiative aimed at nurturing aspiring performers and providing structured training in acting and performance.
