In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Shefali Shah opened up about how the pressures she faced with Delhi Crime differed greatly from the ones she felt during her earlier, now-iconic roles. When asked whether she experienced similar stress with her past performances—many of which went on to become milestones in Indian cinema—Shefali offered an honest and nostalgic reflection on her journey.
She began by recalling the release of Satya, the film that became a turning point for the industry. “Satya was, kar rahe hai, ho raha hai, release ho gaya, logo ko bohot acha lag raha hai, very good. It was like that,” she said. At the time, she didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of what she was part of. “Later on, I realised oh my god, what is this thing that I was a part of? It's cult. I was very young when I did Satya. I was around 20.”
Shefali shared a similar sentiment about Monsoon Wedding, another project that eventually gained global cult status. “Even Monsoon Wedding, I knew it was something very special, but I did not know that this is going to be one of those cult films which are going to be forever,” she explained.
For these early roles, she never carried the weight of pressure that she now feels as the face of Delhi Crime. “The other stuff you want to be liked but it’s not on me. I knew there are lots of people in this film, I don't carry the weight of this project,” she added.
Interestingly, Shefali revealed that the only time she truly worried before Delhi Crime was when her husband Vipul Shah’s films were due for release. “The only time I used to get stressed or I still do is when Vipul’s film is going to release. Because that’s going to affect all of us, and it’s going to affect every single person who works here and everyone who’s put their faith and hard work into this man.”
Through her candid reflections, Shefali Shah highlighted how her relationship with success, pressure, and responsibility evolved over the years. While her early films became cult classics unexpectedly, Delhi Crime placed her at the center of a franchise where the world watched her every move. Yet, her humility remains untouched—rooted in gratitude, grounded in experience, and strengthened by the people she works with and believes in.
