EXCLUSIVE: Shantanu Bagchi comments on Mission Majnu being called “male version” of Raazi; calls Sidharth Malhotra starrer a copy of Romeo and Juliet

en Bollywood News EXCLUSIVE: Shantanu Bagchi comments on Mission Majnu being called “male version” of Raazi; calls Sidharth Malhotra starrer a copy of Romeo and Juliet

After the release of Mission Majnu, a section of netizens compared it to the Alia Bhatt starrer Raazi.

In the past few years, Indian audiences and filmmakers have shown an interest in spy thrillers. Joining the bandwagon, Sidharth Malhotra has also stepped into the shoes of a spy for the Shantanu Bagchi directorial Mission Majnu. However, when the trailer of Mission Majnu was released, a section of moviegoers compared it with the Alia Bhatt starrer Raazi. Amid this, Shantanu Bagchi, in a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, has shared his two cents on the comparison.

EXCLUSIVE: Shantanu Bagchi comments on Mission Majnu being called “male version” of Raazi; calls Sidharth Malhotra starrer a copy of Romeo and Juliet

Shantanu asserted, “It's very simple actually. This is like saying that any love story is a rehash version of Romeo and Juliet. Even in this love story, you have a guy and a girl and they will fall in love and they cannot come together because there are some obstacles. And finally, they will erase those obstacles and come together. It is actually a copy of Romeo and Juliet.”

He further explained, “So, thing is that every genre has certain elements. A romantic has an element that there will be a romance between two people and they will not make it because of certain problems. So, in a spy thriller, there will be a spy who will go to another country, and figure out something which will divert or stop the demolition. Something really bad will happen.”

He concluded by saying, “These are the ELEMENTS of a spy story. There is a spy who is going to some country and figuring out something. This thing is the same thing that happened in Raazi. Thus, the elements remain the same. So, that's number one, number two there is no similarity between Raazi and Mission Majnu.”

As the conversation progressed further, the debutante director also spoke about the film’s release getting delayed. He informed, “We also started shooting, and we have to stop our shoot because of COVID, and getting permission to shoot with 200-odd people was becoming an impossible thing. So, one had to wait, what could not do, and there's no way we can go and shoot it covertly with a small crew, so we had to wait. And the film has a lot of VFX. So once everything shooting is done, even the editing was finished. And once the editing got finished the VFX was there. The post-process after that took a little bit of time and hence everything got a little delayed. But there was nothing we could do.”
