EXCLUSIVE: “Sara Ali Khan is going to be superb on screen” – Abhishek Kapoor

Abhishek (Gattu) Kapoor’s Kedarnath shoot, has completed almost 16 days in the temple town. The director and the producers, Arjun N Kapoor and Prernaa Arora, Bhushan Kumar and Ekta Kapoor are extremely happy with the way the film is shaping up, in spite of the cold weather and logistical difficulties. The film, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and newbie Sara Ali Khan, will complete their Kedarnath schedule in the first week of October. While Sushant is handling his scenes with ease, like the talented actor he is, Sara is a wonderful revelation as she’s tackling her work like a pro. While the actor plays a pithoo in the film, she plays the daughter of a priest.

Says a source from the unit, “The first day the daughter of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh faced the camera stunned the Kedarnath crew and Gattu and Arjun, with her professionalism as she did her first scene with aplomb and showed her comfort level as an actress. Sara had been working hard on her scenes before the first scene was canned - much after Sushant started shooting. She landed in Kedarnath around the same time as Gattu, Sushant and the rest of the unit, even though she wasn’t required then, as she wanted to learn and pick up and absorb the vibes from the set. She’s a keen student of filmmaking and acting and if she can’t grasp the nuances of a scene immediately, Sara always asks Gattu for guidance - from her scenes to her look, styling and costumes. He’s a very patient director, always giving his time and explaining the scenes to her, and that’s why things have been going on so smoothly.”

Abhishek Kapoor, whose production house Guy In The Sky Pictures is also co-producing the film, is all praises while talking about Sara’s first day on the Kedarnath set. “It was freezing cold at -7° Celsius temperature and there was icy rain to add to that so we couldn’t have had a tougher start but Sara handled it very well. Sara is the most delightful and nicest actresses I have worked with! She’s a new girl and all ears, eager to learn, listening and trying to do the best she can do. She is a wonderful person and a very professional actor who is giving her 100% to the film. We are having a great time shooting with her and everyone else and Sara is going to be superb on screen!”

The filmmaker is upset at stories circulating about Sara Ali Khan throwing tantrums on the sets. He states clearly, “It’s very belittling for us to even answer this question. I find these stories unbelievable and I can’t believe that I should be answering a question like this! I think it’s a joke! It can’t be true. I was in shock when people told me that media has written stories about her throwing a tantrum and was unprofessional. Let me clarify once and for all - Sara is not unprofessional at all and nor has she thrown a tantrum. Sara is a student who is in the film industry to learn and build her career so to think that she’s throwing tantrums is so far-fetched! Sara’s looking for guidance, there’s no room for misbehaviour.”

Talking about the rumor-mongers who have said that Sara Ali Khan has been throwing starry tantrums on the sets, Abhishek says, “Their imagination has outstretched their boundaries. We are making movies and Sara is trying her best to get into her character, trying her best to deliver her performance. It’s about humility and Sara is so humble as an actress and person. To say that she is misbehaving is to absolutely misconstrue the vibration on my set. You think people can misbehave on my sets and that’s the kind of films I make? We are all trying to make a movie, trying to get a grip on a scenario, on characters, on the film. It’s not about the people like me, Sushant and Sara, but a film, so please don’t be so callous. We are so small individually compared to the purpose.”

Is he satisfied with the way his film is shaping up? Abhishek Kapoor laughs, “It’s not about satisfaction. I am never satisfied as a creative person – my hunger to make a good film is relentless so how can I ever be satisfied? I am making a movie. Till the day my film releases I am never satisfied. All my movies have never been satisfying to say if it has satisfied me is wrong. We are always aspiring people, to bring alive something and to create something beautiful, special and yet highly entertaining for the audience which they will love.”

Producer Arjun N Kapoor adds, "With reference to some media reports doing the rounds about Sara Ali Khan's supposed 'unprofessional conduct/tantrums' on the shoot of our film Kedarnath, we'd like to categorically refute these reports. They are not just completely incorrect but also malicious towards our young actress who is extremely professional and is doing very well at the shoot."
