EXCLUSIVE: Saloni Batra talks about how she had to convince herself to play Ranbir Kapoor’s sister; says, “I had told Sandeep Sir, ‘maine toh romance karna tha’”

Saloni Batra is currently riding high on the success of Animal which is making and breaking records. The Sandeep Vanga directorial featured the Soni actress as the sister of superstar Ranbir Kapoor in this action entertainer and the actress has been receiving a lot of appreciation. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, as she discussed this ‘overwhelming feeling of love’ which is coming her way, she also opened up about how she had to convince herself to play the role of a sister to a man who is one of the nation’s heartthrobs.

In a candid conversation, Saloni Batra recalled how she convinced herself to essay the character of Ranbir Kapoor’s sister as she said, “I had to convince myself ki role toh bahut badiya hai, par behen banna padega (the role is very good but I will have to play his sister). I even told this to Sir during our first meeting actually. That Sir mujhe toh romance karna, saari ladkiyan duniya ki yahi chahti hain (I had to actually romance, after all it is what all girls around the world want). But having said that, I am so thankful to Sir for giving me that part. The warmth and the vibe that I got on set from Ranbir and (Sandeep) Sir while playing that part was just phenomenal. So I don't think I could have had it any other way.”

The film featured Saloni Batra as Reet, who is quite close to Ranbir’s character Ranvijay and one of his first brush with violence is when she is being harassed in school by a few boys and later, he is also thrown out of his house because of a brawl between him and Reet’s husband Varun. So when asked if she believes in the theory that she is the reason behind all the violence in the film, Saloni added, “Haan woh ek character hain jiske saath yeh sab ho raha hai. Aur ek bhai ek behen ke protection ke liye iss hadh tak jaatha hai shayad woh ek shuruwaat aur ek turning point hai uske jeevan mein (Yes it is a character because of whom a lot of things happen in the film. Ranbir plays a brother who is quite protective of his sister and wants to retaliate when she faces some troubles and yes, you can call it as a starting point or a turning point in his life)”, and she went on to add that his lack of love from his father further instigates the violence within him which makes him the ‘Animal’.
