Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji recently looked back at her experience of working on Mujhse Dosti Karoge (2002), recalling fond memories of filmmaker Yash Chopra during a special interaction at Bollywood Hungama’s Hangout at St Xavier’s College. The event was held as part of promotions for her upcoming film Mardaani 3, which is slated for release on January 30, 2026.
During a segment at the event, Rani was shown old behind-the-scenes photographs from the sets of Mujhse Dosti Karoge, prompting her to share anecdotes from the film’s shoot. Describing the romantic drama, she referred to it as “very much like an Archie’s Betty-Veronica kind of film,” a nod to the love triangle that formed the emotional core of the story.
Rani recalled that the film was shot extensively in London and Switzerland, and spoke at length about Yash Chopra, who was the producer of the film at the time. She fondly referred to him as “Yash uncle,” clarifying that he was not her father-in-law back then.
Sharing a vivid memory from Switzerland, Rani said that Chopra would often relax in the grass during outdoor schedules and call her and Kareena Kapoor Khan over. “He used to just lie down in the grass and say, ‘Come son, have some strawberries and cream,’” she recalled. According to Rani, the director on set would often panic at the sight, worrying that the leading ladies might put on weight.
However, Chopra was unfazed by such concerns. “He would say, ‘Leave it. Let them have strawberries and cream,’” Rani said, adding that they would often sit in the Swiss valleys, sharing the dessert with him. “It was just beautiful,” she remarked, noting that those moments have stayed with her over the years.
Mujhse Dosti Karoge, directed by Kunal Kohli, starred Rani Mukerji, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, and remains one of the memorable romantic films from the early 2000s.
