From Bhavesh Joshi to Mirzapur 2 to Rashmi Rocket, Priyanshu Painyuli has effortlessly managed to slip into the hearts of the audience and make a place for himself. For his latest project, Unpaused: Naya Safar on Amazon Prime Video he plays one half of a couple who are at home during the lockdown and how they go about figuring things out in the face of adversity. Following the overwhelming response of the first edition, Unpaused, which had premiered in 2020, the sequel of the Amazon Original anthology will offer five Hindi short films, each delving uniquely into the relatable challenges that the pandemic has inflicted on everyone while stressing the need to embrace a positive outlook as everyone welcomes the New Year.
Talking about what made him do Unpaused- Naya Safar, Priyanshu told Bollywood Hungama, "I think when I read the script, the whole idea of a couple being in lockdown felt very relatable to me, personally. You always want to see the dynamics of a couple in different situations, it's very interesting to see how a man and a woman deal with things together, and how they come together to solve an issue. Also, I didn't know that a higher percentage of women have been laid off compared to men. So, yeah, overall, I think it’s me just reflecting on what just happened. It's not a story from any other time, it's just a story which is still currently valid."
Priyanshu plays the role of a guy named Dippy who like many others is Working From Home during the pandemic going about his day-to-day activities. He lives with his wife Kriti (Shreya Shanwanthary who gets laid off from her job during the lockdown. "Dippy is high on energy and works at an advertising company. The only thing is now that his wife is been laid off from work," Priyanshu said adding, "During the lockdown, we were anyway, going through our issues. And emotionally, we were not stable. Now how do you deal with yourself and with your partner, you come together to deal with the issue at hand. So that's what this guy is all about."
This is Priyanshu’s second OTT original. When asked about the advantages of working for a project solely made for OTT, the actor explains, “I think the most powerful thing about OTT and if you are in a good project made for OTT is that you're going to be very, very intimate with your audience. When I say intimate in a sense, because people are viewing it in their personal space, whether it's in the living room, in your bedroom, on the phones with them, they do it while sitting anywhere and you can connect with them. So what I try to do is that I play it real and give them entertainment at the same time."
So far, Priyanshu has managed to surprise the audience with his varied characters. Talking about what he primarily looks for in a project before getting on board and if he also worries about the commercial aspect of the project, the actor shared, "Definitely, first thing is the script. And, yes, with the commercial angle, in the sense that, you need to understand if you do a good script and it's not watched by people then it doesn't make sense to put in so much effort. Now, as I do more work, I realized that there's so much work that goes into making really good work. Not just by me, but by the crew, and everybody, producers, directors, everybody in the unit. So if we're doing good work, let it come out to as many people. So it should come out on a good platform and it should release well. But that's not in the also in my hand. So I really focus on what the story is, I really focus on if I have a strong role. And if it is interesting enough, I'm not repeating myself somewhere so much, and it should really intrigue me. That’s something different I'm doing," he said.
