Payal Rohatgi began her career with Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai (2002) and was then seen in Plan (2004), Rakht (2004), 36 China Town (2006) etc. At the same time, she appeared in lead roles in films like Tauba Tauba (2004), Chetna: The Excitement (2005), Fun - Can Be Dangerous Sometimes (2005) etc. These films were fronted by her, and they drew an audience thanks to her presence. One such film that she worked in at this point was Mr 100% - The Real Player (2006), co-starring Irrfan Khan, Mahima Chaudhry and Aryan Vaid. 14 years after its release, in March 2020, the film was rebranded as Apno Se Bewafai and an attempt was made to bring it to cinemas. While Om Prakash Makkar was credited as Mr 100% - The Real Player’s director, Prakash Bhalekar was said to be the director of Apno Se Bewafai. He claimed that the film was delayed due to Irrfan Khan’s delay and other reasons. It’s only when Apno Se Bewafai’s trailer was out that it came to light that Mr 100% - The Real Player is being re-released with a new title.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, we asked Payal Rohatgi to comment on this aspect. She admitted, “I have no idea. At that time, Irrfan Khan used to work in A-grade films. Toh mujhe laga ki yeh film bhi A-grade hogi. But the film was made in a B-grade manner. In fact, he was a bigger star at that time, who was also working in Hollywood.”
Payal, who’s now also exploring a career as a singer, continued, “At times, you don’t get to know about branding, placement. I am learning singing and many people suggest that I should record a song. There’s Instagram for that, but I don’t want to go that route. I want to release a song with a big music label. Or else, it doesn’t make sense to upload on Instagram. Woh sab toh influencers kar hi rahe hain. Agar mujhe apne naam ke saath thodi bhi wafadaari karni hai, toh mujhe ek dhang ka support system chahiye. If I get that support system, then that’s great. Or else, I’ll continue to enjoy living my life. At present, music is giving me happiness. I am going with my flow.”
She signed off by saying, “Now I am aware and careful about grading. India is a country jahan aap porn actors ko sar pe bithaoge. Someone like Sunny Leone gets so much respect. But when certain actors’ grading is affected, the filmmakers don’t even touch them with a barge pole. Hence, one has to be very careful on how you’re placing yourself. We don’t come from a film background and we need to pay our bills. So, we have to be very practical about a lot of things.”
Meanwhile, there were plans to release Apno Se Bewafai in 2022 and then on May 26, 2023. However, as of now, the film has yet to hit cinemas.
