In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Pankaj Tripathi offered a rare and deeply personal reflection on mental health, grief, and the importance of seeking help when needed amid the release of his first web production Perfect Family. Known for his calm demeanour and grounded personality, the actor spoke candidly about how life’s recent challenges shaped his understanding of emotional wellbeing.

When asked whether he would be open to therapy if needed, Pankaj responded without hesitation. “Yes, 100%,” he said, explaining that the past few years had been particularly difficult for him. He shared that he spent months dealing with emotional struggles after the death of his father, without fully understanding what he was going through.

“I have spent two three months, the last two years, my life has been very difficult. After my father's death, I didn't know I was depressed. I was feeling very low about what had happened to me,” he admitted.

The grief resurfaced when his mother passed away just a few weeks ago, adding another layer to his emotional journey. Pankaj said that acknowledging what he felt was the first step. “The biggest thing is to admit that I am feeling wrong. So how do I fix this? I am absolutely open to it,” he added.

He appreciated Perfect Family writer Palak Bhambri’s perspective, who told him that mental health should be treated just like any physical ailment. “Palak said a very good thing that just like we treat cold and cough, we should treat therapy and mental illness in the same way,” he recalled.

Pankaj also highlighted that therapy is more accessible today than many people realise. “There are many organizations, NGOs which do it for free… Even if it is for two hours, you can come and meet a psychiatrist and talk to him,” he said.

Reflecting on India’s cultural traditions, the actor drew a parallel between modern therapy and the ancient guru–disciple practice. He shared how people once sought guidance from gurus not just for spiritual reasons but to resolve personal issues. “So, these things were another form of therapy in our society… accepting, surrendering, accepting that yes, I need this thing,” he explained.

For Pankaj Tripathi, therapy is not something to be hidden or feared. Instead, he believes it is a healthy, necessary step—one he would take openly and without hesitation.
