EXCLUSIVE: How Manish Shah of Goldmines Telefilms SMARTLY edited and modified dialogues in Jersey’s dubbed Hindi version and made it far more IMPACTFUL than the Shahid Kapoor-starrer

en Bollywood News EXCLUSIVE: How Manish Shah of Goldmines Telefilms SMARTLY edited and modified dialogues in Jersey’s dubbed Hindi version and made it far more IMPACTFUL than the Shahid Kapoor-starrer

The Telugu film Jersey starring Nani released in 2019 and was a huge success. The Hindi remake of the same name was released on April 22 this year. Starring Shahid Kapoor, a lot of hopes were pinned on this film. Sadly, despite having a good word of mouth and boasting of a bravura performance from Shahid, the film failed big time at the box office. One of the reasons that were given for its debacle was that it was released at a time when KGF - Chapter 2 was doing very well and was the first choice of the moviegoers.

EXCLUSIVE: How Manish Shah of Goldmines Telefilms SMARTLY edited and modified dialogues in Jersey’s dubbed Hindi version and made it far more IMPACTFUL than the Shahid Kapoor-starrer

The other reason was that several people had seen the original’s Hindi dubbed version. Manish Shah has the rights and he uploaded the cricket drama on Goldmines’ YouTube channel on October 13, 2019. Ever since it has earned 10.55 crore views and counting.

Those who saw the remake, as well as the dubbed version, remarked how the latter was much more impactful. The remake version of Jersey is close to 2 hours and 50 minutes long. Jersey’s dubbed version meanwhile is a mere 2 hours and 5 minutes long.

And that’s not all. Manish Shah got the dialogues modified suitably to create a larger impact. For instance, in the original version, Arjun (Nani) tries stealing from Sarah’s (Shraddha Srinath) purse and she catches him red-handed. She blasts him and even gives him a tight slap. Their son, Nani (Ronit Kamra), who is in the toilet, hears the commotion.

Earlier in the day, Arjun slapped Nani after his son repeatedly asks him to buy a jersey for him. Minutes before Arjun tries to steal money, Sarah had asked Nani why his cheek has turned red. To which, Nani had reasoned that he was injured during cricket practice.

Arjun hears it, feels guilty and later asks Nani why he lied to Sarah. Nani says, “She’ll think that I am lying. Nobody will believe that you hit me.” An emotional Arjun then decides that he needs to change his life’s situation and hence, decides to fulfil his dreams so that he never reaches a point where he doesn’t have the money for his son.

In the dubbed version, Manish Shah did a masterstroke. After the slapping episode, Nani is shown confronting Arjun for trying to steal. Nani says, “Aapne apne hi ghar mein chori ki. Ab log mujhe chor ka beta kahenge! Main kitna pyaar karta tha aapse. Aap achche papa nahi hai. Aap bahut bure hai. I hate you.”

Interestingly, the dialogue fits very well and matches the crying expressions of Arjun. It also helps justify the next scene, that is, Arjun decided to pursue cricket again! The remake version of Jersey, meanwhile, had the same kind of dialogues and subtle emotions in the said scene, as it was in the original Telugu version. As a result, moviegoers who had already seen the original on Goldmines gave it an upper hand as compared to the Shahid Kapoor-starrer.

When Bollywood Hungama exclusively asked Manish Shah the thought behind this superb edit, he said, “Wherever we felt the film was getting slow, we cut it out. That’s how Goldmines works. For me, it’s about giving the best possible experience in the world to the viewers.”

On modifying the dialogues, Manish Shah explained, “Yes we did it because Indians need loud emotions. We should not copy the West. There, the emotions are shown subtly. However, our emotions have to be loud; or else, it won’t work!”

Manish Shah was in the news in January 2022 when he had decided to release the Hindi version of Allu Arjun’s 2020 blockbuster Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo in the cinemas. His plan couldn’t materialize due to the pressure from the producers of the original version, who are also remaking it in Hindi, titled Shehzada, starring Kartik Aaryan. Manish Shah then released it on his TV channel, Goldmines, which was then called Dhinchak TV. As expected, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’s dubbed version got a roaring reception from the TV audiences.

On this, Manish Shah revealed, “It continues to be one of the top films on TV even today.” He has also decided not to release the film on his YouTube channel and instead play it on his TV channel only.
