Filmmaker Anubhuti Kashyap has shared that the casting of her film Accused was driven by a clear creative instinct from the outset. Rather than exploring multiple options, the team quickly realised they needed a performer who could lend both strength and credibility to the story’s emotional core.
That search, she explained, led them almost immediately to Konkona Sen Sharma. Once her name came up, the makers were convinced that she was the right fit and decided they would not approach anyone else unless she declined the role.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Anubhuti said, “When we started to cast, we thought we really need a solid performer to back this. Then Kokos [Konkona Sen Sharma] was the first name that came up. Yeah we just decided we won't go to anybody else until she says no. We pitched the film to her, narrated it to her. She loved it too and she said she'll come on board. So it was very simple casting.”
According to the director, the team’s confidence in their choice made the process unusually smooth. Instead of a lengthy casting search, the focus shifted to presenting the story to the actor they felt could anchor the film.
Her comments highlight how a strong creative vision can simplify one of filmmaking’s most complex stages. By trusting their instincts and approaching the actor they believed was essential to the role, the makers were able to secure their lead without an extended search, setting the tone for a collaboration rooted in clarity and confidence from the very beginning.
