EXCLUSIVE: Kamlesh Sawant aka Inspector Gaitonde of Drishyam says, “My mother wasn’t happy when I was being hit”

Actor Kamlesh Sawant became popular for his act as a bad cop Gaitonde in Drishyam. He received a wide array of reactions, out of which some were surprising for him.

EXCLUSIVE: Kamlesh Sawant aka Inspector Gaitonde of Drishyam says, “My mother wasn’t happy when I was being hit”

Sharing this bit in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Kamlesh said, “After the release of Drishyam, I came home and asked my wife astonishingly as to what I had done, as I had received a variety of reactions from multiple people. I asked her how did she like the film and how did she like my work in it. She comes from a similar background, so she understands the drama that is created. She is my first critic.”

Sharing his family’s reactions, he said, “I also asked my mother regarding the film and my work in it. Like my wife, she equally loved the film and my work in it. However, she was not happy with a scene in the end, where I was being hit. This is a mother’s perspective towards her son”.

When asked about Kamlesh’s daughter’s reaction with regards to his character in the film, he said, “My daughter was just one year old when the shooting of Drishyam began. When I was packing my bag to leave for Goa, she came to drop me off at airport and saw me leaving. That is when she realized that my father is leaving, which led to her shedding tears for me. Eventually, whenever I started packing my bag, she used to start crying. However, when she first saw Drishyam in cinema, she started screaming that it is his dad on the screen, due to which my wife asked me to take her out of the theatre”.

For those not in the know, Kamlesh’s character Gaitonde carries out atrocities on the Salgaonkar family in Drishyam and Drishyam 2, which include characters played by Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav.

Sharing another interesting reaction, he added, “I also received a message from my daughter’s friend where she said that she loved my acting, but I shouldn’t have hit the girl in the film. This shows that even a young girl like her felt my character was real. I respect these kinds of reactions as these reactions from the audience give me certain kind of validation that I justified my character or at least I tried to justify it. These are the reactions that gives me sense of success”.

Kamlesh also continued the same character of Inspector Gaitonde in Drishyam 2. He once again received positive reactions for his act.
