EXCLUSIVE: Family of Andaz Apna Apna producer Vinay Sinha talk about the re-release and shooting experience: “People assumed Salman Khan used to come late but he was always on time; Aamir Khan used to arrive 2 hours before call time”

Andaz Apna Apna (1994) re-released on April 25 and on this joyous occasion, Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Priti Sinha, Amod Sinha and Namrata Sinha, the children of the comic caper’s deceased producer, Vinay Sinha. Over the years, it is often said that when the film was being shot, lead actors Salman Khan and Aamir Khan were not on talking terms. The Sinhas set the record straight on this aspect.

Priti Sinha said, “I don’t think that ever happened. I went to the Ooty schedule where I didn’t see anything like that, at all. Aamir bhai is a very, very excited and happy actor. He was quite kicked about this film. Also, he used to take up limited work at one time. But Salman sir used to do a lot of films at that time.”

She added, “Therefore, Aamir bhai used to come 2 hours before call time. That’s the excitement he had. I really value it. Salman sir used to come on time. Hence, a perception spread that he used to arrive late. But since we used to go on the shoot very often, we can vouch that Salman sir was punctual.”

Namrata Sinha, however, said that both actors took the film to another level, “Aamir bhai is very entertaining while Salman came out very endearingly in the film. The film became what it did because of them.”

Priti Sinha remarked, “I was a huge fan of Archie comics. I told my father, ‘Yeh Archie comics ki story hai. Salman sir’s character is Archie while Aamir is Reggie’. I also drew parallels with Veronica and Betty (with the characters played by Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor).”

The melodious soundtrack of AAA

Andaz Apna Apna’s music also has its charm and it was composed by Tushar Bhatia; the composer rarely ever composed for a Hindi film. Priti Sinha explained how he was locked, “He played some tunes and it was my liked by the team. They were like, ‘Yehi music director honge’.”

Namrata Sinha added, “I liked the music. It was old school type and hence, different. It was like a breath of fresh air. The head of marketing at Tips Music told me, ‘Usually, the music gives the film a push. Andaz Apna Apna is the first time where the vice versa happened’!”

Amod Sinha exulted, “The music of the film, in my opinion, was very lovely and soothing. It suited the film. If there were loud, ‘bam bam’ type of songs, toh itna maza nahin aata. The soft kind of music in a comedy-drama was apt.”
