Salim Siddiqui is receiving rave reviews for his role as Atif Ahmed in the recently-released Dhurandhar The Revenge, which has already created new records at the box office. He plays the role of an illegal drugs and weapons seller in the movie.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Siddiqui shared how happy he is by the response to the film. “When we were doing the film, we knew we are making something world class,” he said. “I had no doubt about it. But when you see it happening what you aspired for, it feels great. That is happening with people associated with Dhurandhar. All thanks to the love people have shown to the film. The entire nation is proud of this film. It is proved that India can also make a film like this. I am getting calls from my friends in London, Australia and Canada and they are saying that they are not able to get tickets. That is the response this film is getting all across the world.”
As far as his casting is concerned, Siddiqui shared that he got a call from Mukesh Chhabra’s casting agency and he gave an audition in the latter’s office. “The process itself gave a learning experience of how to build up the character,” he said. He credits Mukesh Chhabra for getting everyone’s casting right. “We keep saying ‘peak detailing by Aditya Dhar’. Similarly, the detailing in the casting is also perfect. Any character you pick up, you will like it so much. That is the magic of Mukesh Chhabra’s Casting Company,” he said.
The actor said that because of Aditya Dhar’s guidance and preparation, he didn’t face any major challenges while playing Atif Ahmed. “Everything was made very easy by Aditya sir. His instructions were very clear. His vision was very clear. It all went well as it was well planned and well organized. I read a lot about the character and found what the requirement of the character was. This character has a dialect. He belongs to a certain city and that city has a dialect. That was something I had to work upon,” he said.
When asked to recall an incident during the shoot of Dhurandhar The Revenge that has stayed with him, Siddiqui said that when he visited the sets for the first time, he couldn’t recognize Ranveer Singh. This was while shooting the scene where Jaskirat Singh Rangi (Ranveer) and Pinda (Udaybir Sandhu) visit Atif Ahmed’s den to buy drugs and weapons.

“I couldn’t recognize Ranveer,” said Siddiqui. “He was so into the character. He was completely into it. My daughter recognized him and told me, ‘He is Ranveer Singh’. That’s how I recognized him. Even today, I keep wondering how I didn’t recognize him. He appeared like a real person named Jaskirat Singh Rangi.”
Later on, Siddiqui developed a warm bond with Ranveer. He is all praise for the superstar. “Ranveer’s energy is unmatched,” he said. “I never saw him sitting or just chilling on the sets. He was always on his feet, doing something. When you work with him, his energy starts flowing into you. He is always giving his 100%. And he is so humble. When we met for the first time, it felt like we knew each other since ages. He gives so much love to his co-actors. He never makes you feel that he is a seasoned actor and we are new. Even recently when I met him at the screening and the success party, he was just spreading love. Everyone loves him. I am looking forward to work with him again if I get a chance.”
Siddiqui was also amazed by the atmosphere on the sets created by Aditya Dhar. “I didn’t notice anyone tired,” he said. “Everyone was on the set always with a lot of positivity. It was this film’s fate that it did so well. And that fate happens when everyone’s intention is so good. Then things start happening for you. The only motto everyone had was that we work hard and give a world class cinema to the audience. Hence, everyone associated with this film are getting praised and recognized.”
