The recently released film Binny And Family has got a lot of acclaim from the audience. Many industry stalwarts have also showered praises on the family entertainer. The latest to join this list is none other than David Dhawan. His grand-niece, Anjini Dhawan, debuts in this film and in an exclusive interaction with Bollywood Hungama, David revealed his thoughts about Binny And Family. He also proudly said that he went to see the film in cinemas as he’s a “theatre guy”.
David Dhawan began by saying, “Binny And Family is a very good film as it tells a human story. I am also a grandfather (and I could relate to the film better). When you are doing well, you neglect your parents and grandparents. They are old or retired and they want to know how you are doing. But we would tell them, ‘I am getting late for work; shaam ko milte hai’. The mother calls at night asking ‘Tune khana khaya?’. She is concerned. But the child would quickly put the phone down, saying ‘Main baad mein call karta hoon’. It's only later we realize that we should have given time to our parents and grandparents. I had this realization.”
David continued, “All these aspects have been depicted beautifully. The scene where Anjini cries in the pre-climax is superb. The second half, in fact, hits you, especially the emotional aspect. I cried not once, but 3-4 times. Many might not admit it but most of them have got teary-eyed while watching this movie. The ladies and elderly people have loved it.”
However, he added, “Yet, it’s also a youthful film. The youth should definitely see this film to realize how you treat your parents and grandparents is so important.”
David Dhawan is happy to know that over one lakh students, studying at one of India's most respected educational institutions DAV, along with the teachers and parents, will be watching Binny And Family. He stated, “Students in hordes are watching the film. Also, it’ll get a damn good response on OTT.”
Talking about the performances, David Dhawan said, “Pankaj Kapur is outstanding and even Anjini has done very well. I have known her since birth. I was stunned by her performance. Even Varun, my wife and others were discussing the same. Sometimes, an actor holds back out of nervousness but she didn’t do so. She played the role on the front foot. Look at the way she cries and gets angry.”
Did David Dhawan speak with Anjini after watching Binny And Family? He replied, “I messaged Anjini that, ‘You are here to stay’. I told her to put her head down, be respectful to the filmmakers and never show attitude. I also asked her to be involved in the filmmaking process, think about how she can perform better etc. Otherwise, some actors are like ‘Haan bolo kya scene hai’. She should not do that. I personally don’t like such actors.”
He signed off by stating, “The young crowd should see the film. Initially, they might wonder what’s going on but later on, they’ll also get involved. This is because emotions are universal.”
Besides Anjini Dhawan and Pankaj Kapur, Binny And Family also stars Himani Shivpuri, Rajesh Kumar, Naman Tripaathy and Charu Shankar and is written and directed by Ssanjay Tripaathy. It is produced by Mahaveer Jain Films and Wavebrand Productions and presented by Ektaa R Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms, Shashank Khaitan and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba. The film will be released in cinemas by PVR.
