EXCLUSIVE: Chandan Roy Sanyal on working with Raveena Tandon in Patna Shuklla, “Had seen Mohra, Andaz Apna Apna when I was in school”

Chandan Roy Sanyal revealed that he had even bought cassettes of Mohra and Andaz Apna Apna when he was in school.

Filmmaker Vivek Budakoti’s Patna Shuklla released today on Disney+ Hotstar. The film sees Raveena Tandon play a lawyer Tanvi Shukla, who fights against the education system. On the other hand, Chandan Roy Sanyal plays lawyer Neelkanth Mishra, who fights for the system.

As his character is arguing against the protagonist, played by Tandon, Chandan was asked if his character has grey or negative shades in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama. “There are no grey shades,” he said. “He is not a villain or anything. He is a very well-educated lawyer and very elite and posh. But yet he is a Bihari. He is an Anglo-sized Bihari. He probably went to Oxford and he is from Patna. Somewhere, I have spoken in Bhojpuri and sometimes English. I tried creating a very interesting lawyer.”

Patna Shuklla tackles a rare education scam where marks of one bright student are transferred to another undeserving student through fraudulent means. Speaking more about the subject, Chandan said, “There are a lot of poor people in our country, who are eager to get their kids educated. Rich people’s kids go in these big schools and they use internet and mobile. There is a huge divide (between both). I am myself educated in a government school. Even someone who runs an auto-rickshaw wishes that his kid becomes an IAS officer or engineer or doctor. Hence, education plays a big role in everyone’s lives. As this film is about education, it will be relatable for people from all sections.”

He added, “The film is about all the hardships parents undergo to get their kids educated. And then when something of this sort happens with them, what all they go through. So every parent will be moved by this film.”

Chandan says that it was a big thing for him to act alongside Raveena Tandon. “It was like a very unusual experience,” he said. “I saw her films like Mohra and Andaz Apna Apna when I was in school. I had bought their cassettes also. And today on the same set I am acting with her shows that life is full of surprises. I never thought that I will act and that too with Raveena ji. This was a moment of happiness for me. She was really helpful. She is a very kind human being.”

About their scenes together in court, Chandan said, “The scenes we have done together will be enjoyed by the audiences. There is a lot of humour and competition happening between us as actors. Support from your co-actor is very necessary, which I got from her.”

Patna Shuklla also stars Manav Vij, Anushka Kaushik, the late Satish Kaushik, Jatin Goswami, Alok Chatterjee, among others.
