The fourth season of the light-hearted family show The Aam Aadmi Family recently started streaming on ZEE 5. Directed by Himali Shah, it is rare for a web series to keep entertaining its audience for as many as four seasons.
Reacting on the same, Brijendra Kala, who plays Satendra Sharma, the lead character in the show, told Bollywood Hungama exclusively, “It’s a big thing for me that a show where I am playing one of the leads has brought out its fourth season. We aren’t doing the same thing every season. We have been inventing something new every season. The USP for this season is that there are new and different type of stories, and they are related to the life of the common man.”
The Aam Aadmi Family season 4 also stars Lubna Salim, Saadhika Syal, Chandan Anand, among others.
Brijendra Kala said that it becomes easier to relate with a show like this because he too comes from a common middle-class family. Looking back at his life in entirety, the veteran actor remarked, “I keep saying that we have seen the changing times. Like, when things like pressure cooker, tube light, gas cylinder and TV came for the first time. We have seen that era. And someone from the middle class can never forget this.”
Brijendra Kala is known for his natural humour. He said that he tries to do the same off camera too. “I am always naughty on the sets,” he said. “I make sure that the atmosphere on the sets is very entertaining. I ensure that nobody is hesitant about anything with anyone. If there is any popular actor on the set, I make sure that I make myself so comfortable with him that when I perform with him, there is no hesitation. If you gel well with your co-stars and director, your work becomes easy.”
The OTT medium boomed in India from 2020 onwards because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have seen a large number of popular Hindi shows being made in these years. But most of them are related to crime and there are very few shows aimed at families.
Sharing his take on this, Brijendra Kala said, “It’s all about the wishes of the makers. They make what they feel is good. It is also good that if such (family) shows are less in number, there will be more people who will watch our show. It is also a matter of choice. Some people like Ram Leela, some like Raas Leela. Once someone starts watching our series, he or will get to see something relatable to himself.”
Explaining further, the veteran artiste also gave a hint about the next season of The Aam Aadmi Family. “The makers put in their money on the shows to earn money. So, our show has reached the fourth season because the earlier seasons were liked. And we may go into the fifth season only if the fourth season does very well,” said Brijendra Kala.
