Bhumi Pednekar is gearing up for her first release of the year, a crime drama, Bhakshak, featuring her as Vaishali Singh, a determined journalist on a mission to expose a heinous crime. Inspired by true events, the film promises to captivate audiences with a tale of bravery and the quest for justice. Allegedly inspired by the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, the film tackles the sexual molestation of young girls and women. The film stars Aditya Srivastava in the antagonist role. Known for his iconic role of Abhijeet in longest longest-running TV series CID, the actor has been known for his stupendous work in the movies including Bandit Queen, Gulaal and Black Friday.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Bhumi Pednekar said that the actor is beyond phenomenal. “That human being does not have a bone of malice in him.”

Director Pulkit added, “If you have seen Aditya Srivastava’s earlier work like Bandit Queen, Gulaal and Black Friday, he is a phenomenal actor. He worked on CID for a long time. He is also a great human being. It was so easy to get a nuanced performance out of him. He used to say ‘Please inform me prior to the scene shoot. Don’t tell me an hour before because my mood will be ruined about the scene and performance and I will be in dilemma about how to perform it as I am not a person like that.' He is so good in it.”

Directed by Pulkit and produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma, Bhakshak features a powerful ensemble including Sanjay Mishra, and Sai Tamhankar, along with Bhumi Pednekar. The film follows the life of a fearless investigative journalist who uncovers shocking secrets hidden within a girls’ shelter home. The film arrives on Netflix on February 9, 2024.
