EXCLUSIVE: ‘Besharam Rang’ lyricist Vishal Dadlani reveals Shilpa Rao was involved with the song even before the lyrics : Bollywood News

There was a lot of political controversy around the song ‘Besharam Rang’ from Pathaan when the song was released. But once it died down, the track started gaining appreciation for what it is. Along with Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan’s chemistry, Shilpa Rao’s voice too has succeeded in mesmerizing the audience.

During an exclusive video interview with Bollywood Hungama, composer duo Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani, popularly known as Vishal-Shekhar, were all praise for Shilpa. When it was pointed out to Vishal that Shilpa’s voice has a lot of texture, he said, “And the beautiful thing with her is that she is not doing the texture. That’s just who she is. It’s effortless. We have a long-standing relationship. We have been working since ‘Khuda Jaane’ (from Bachna Ae Haseeno).”

Vishal added that Siddharth Anand, the director of Pathaan, and Shilpa Rao have a unique relationship as well. “It is not often that you see a relationship between a director and a singer,” he said.

Chipping in with his view on the singer, Shekhar added, “Shilpa is also one of my favourite singers. She is very real. I feel being real and honest is always a part of your art. She is not trying to be someone else. She is not trying to modulate her voice. She is what she is. And that makes the song really special.”

Vishal revealed that Shilpa was involved with ‘Besharam Rang’ even before the song was fully penned. “On this one, she sang from scratch; before we had the lyrics,” he said. “Then she came back and sang it after (we had the lyrics). It’s an unusual way of working.”

Pathaan has been breaking several records at the box office. The film, which also stars John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana, has almost reached Rs 450 crores in India itself.
