After the enormous success of Stree 2, producer Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe is all set to expand even more. After Stree, Bhediya and Munjya, the makers will be introducing a new vampire movie in the universe and it will star none other than Ayushmann Khurrana. Interestingly, his younger brother Aparshakti Khurana is already an integral part of the universe as he plays Bittu in the Stree series.
EXCLUSIVE: Aparshakti Khurana on working with brother Ayushmann Khurrana in the horror-comedy universe after Stree 2, “It’s a very quirky script. When all the worlds from the universe would merge together…”In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, when Aparshakti was asked how excited he is to see his brother become a part of the horror-comedy universe and how it would be to finally collaborate with him, he said, “Right now, I won’t be able to speak on what all is happening with that film. All I know is that it’s a very quirky script. When in totality, all the worlds (of the horror-comedy universe) would merge together, and this world would merge too, it is going to be great fun. Me and Bhaiya were always up to collaborate. And touchwood, we are looking forward to it.”
When asked whether Ayushmann and his wife and filmmaker Tahira Kashyap have seen Stree 2, Aparshakti said, “They all have seen the film. Their reaction has been very good. They saw it on the night of the 14th itself.”
Stree 2 has defied all calculations and earned Rs. 400 crores gross worldwide. Aparshakti said that they never thought that this would happen. “Honestly, neither me nor anyone else thought even in our dreams that the film would get such numbers,” he said. “When you are shooting the film, you are given the script and told that today you are required to do this particular scene. Once the camera is on, you just perform. You don’t think about numbers and all. Only then will you be able to give a performance from your heart.”
The on-screen chemistry between Aparshakti, Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi has become a highlight of Stree 2. “The on-screen chemistry is appearing so good only because there is a lot of love between us off-screen,” said the actor. “Someone told me at the airport that five minutes into the film, he felt he has gone back to Chanderi. This is possible because of the off-screen bond. Touchwood, there is a lot of love between us.”
In a recent conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Niren Bhatt, the writer of Stree 2, said that all four actors improvised a lot on the set. Reacting to this, Aparshakti said, “Firstly, it is Niren bhai’s large-heartedness to say that we all improvised during the shoot because more or less we only said and did what he had written. We keep doing things differently and that’s what we have tried to do. And it really excites me to do that.”
Aparshakti said that the whole horror-comedy franchise wouldn’t have been possible without producer Dinesh Vijan’s passion. “His contribution is more than anyone else’s,” he said. “He has been a flagbearer of this kind of cinema in the country. When it comes to packaging, his mind is very hatke and evolved. Very few people have such courage and confidence of doing what they are convinced about, taking it to the theatres by investing this much money. He looks after everything, including songs. He is one of the most hardworking producers.”
Stree 2 sees Aparshakti’s character singing a lori (lullaby) for his girlfriend Chitti. While sharing a funny incident, he said that his school friend Vishal recently asked him to sing that lori for him over the phone. “My wife came and asked for whom I am singing it,” said Aparshakti. “I said it’s for Vishal. She said, ‘Mujhe suna nahin rahe ho aur Vishal ko suna rahe ho tum?’”
