Ananya Panday, who recently appeared on Bollywood Hungama’s Hangout at IFP, opened up about the intense preparation that went into shaping her role for Kesari Chapter 2. Set in the 1920s, the film demanded that the actress shed every trace of her contemporary Gen Z mannerisms and adopt the restrained physicality of a woman from that era.
During the conversation, Ananya explained that the transformation was not just about dialogue delivery but also involved changing the smallest details of how she carried herself. “For Kesari, I had to change the way I walked,” she said, adding that her character required a stillness completely different from her natural energy. “I’m a 2025 Gen Z girl. I’m playing someone from the 1920s. She can’t move her hands like this or make a hundred expressions. There’s a certain way in which she had to talk and walk and be. So, I had to really work on that.”
The discussion began when Ananya was asked whether every film requires workshops. She explained that the need varies widely from project to project. Films built on spontaneity—like her upcoming Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri with Kartik Aaryan—needed little to no rehearsal.
“There are certain films where you don’t need to do workshops,” she said. “Tu Meri Main Tera didn’t need it because that film required a sense of spontaneity and improvisation with Kartik. If we over-rehearsed, our reactions wouldn’t be genuine.” She added that they didn’t even read together more than once before going on set.
However, projects with more emotional layering—such as Kontrol, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, Gehraiyaan, and now Kesari Chapter 2—demanded detailed preparation. “Those films require work because there’s a big internal world the character is feeling,” she noted.
On the professional front, Ananya is gearing up for her Christmas release Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. She has also begun filming the second season of her OTT series Call Me Bae and is working on Chand Mera Dil alongside Lakshya Lalwani.
