EXCLUSIVE: “I always took Aamir Khan’s films as reference points for my craft,” says Laal Singh Chaddha actor Naga Chaitanya

Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya is gearing up for the release of Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Chaitanya shared how Aamir Khan played a crucial role in his life for developing his craft as an actor.

EXCLUSIVE: “I always took Aamir Khan’s films as reference points for my craft,” says Laal Singh Chaddha actor Naga Chaitanya

“He's a person I have grown up watching. And even before I became an actor, I always took his films as reference points for me, for my craft, to develop myself. So, when such a person says something like that, and when you finally get to work with them, and they appreciate your work, and they like what you've added to the film, it's a huge boost of confidence personally.”

When asked if he expected his co-star and producer Aamir Khan to be so involved in the whole process of creating his whole character and its overall look in the film, Chaitanya shared, “No, it's a very new process for me actually. Usually, it's the director who is involved this much and gets into the skin of things. But I've heard about it, about how Aamir sir sort of gets involved in every part of the film. It's not just his character but you know the direction department, the art, the camera department, every actor’s look, every actor’s lines.”

He continued, “So yeah, when I heard about it, but it was experiencing it for the first time. So it was a very new experience for me, but also gave me a lot of confidence. Because when you're sort of guided or mentored by a person like him and you know the kind of body of work they put out and you know you're in safe hands. So, it was it was a very good experience for me.”

Talking about the “special bond” he developed “organically” with the entire team, the actor shared, “I sort of developed a special bond with the entire team and their working style. Usually in a film, we get to know the team for a few days of preparation, and we jump into the shoot. But here we almost had about four or five months of pre-production where I spent time with them, on readings, on the look, on rehearsals and also just chilling with them.”

“So, this entire process really got me very close to them. I love the way they work, I love their process. So, it just happened so organically. And when we went to Cargill, we had no cell phone signals, nothing. For 45 days, we were just there with each other, every day two hours' drive with Aamir sir in the car. So, this entire process just became really special to me.”

Laal Singh Chaddha, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Kiran Rao, and Viacom18 Studios, stars Aamir Khan Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Chaitanya Akkineni. The film is directed by Advait Chandan and will be released on August 11, 2022.
