Celebrating the fourth anniversary of Jawaani Jaaneman prompts a reflective exploration into Alaya F's journey in the film industry. Starring alongside industry-celebrated stars Tabu and Saif Ali Khan, Alaya’s debut was nothing short of a dream for her. The film was released on January 31, 2020. However, she feels that the project was meant for her.
In just over a week, the actress celebrated her 4th anniversary in the film industry. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Alaya says, “Four years have passed, but half the time went in the pandemic. It's still quite a surreal feeling to realize that I've been in this industry for four years. And hopefully, by the time it hits five years, I have lots more work out because the pandemic stole so much time away that I want to make up for all the lost time now.”
Recalling how the project came her way, Alaya F adds, “Jawaani Jaaneman sort of came to me in a very unique way. I had heard of this film a while ago, and then there was no more conversation on it. So it sort of slipped my mind until one day my team, my agent sent me a message about it. On that same day, my father saw an article in the newspaper about it and he sent me a photo of it saying, ‘Hey, maybe you should look into this project.’ My mother also happened to mention something about something she saw about it on the same day. And it came to me through one other way also, someone had sent it to me. So I was like, this is interesting for people in one day has spoken to me about this film, which had never happened before. So I was like, ‘Yeah, let's see if we can get an opportunity to test for it.’”
Recalling the audition, Alaya says that she related to the character and felt it was meant for it. She continues, “I went in, and when I read the scenes that were there for the test, I was like, ‘This girl is just like me, and very rarely had I read a script or a scene that I related to so much in a certain way.’ But just because of the way the character was, the way she spoke, the way she you know, her look, how the description was, I could totally imagine myself in that character. I was testing for lots of projects around that time and nothing was working out. This project felt like it was somehow divinely meant for me only. I tested for it and somehow everything aligned and it worked out. And when I read the entire script, it again just felt like I honestly felt like no one else could have played it. That was meant for me and it was the best experience ever.”
Alaya F's debut performance showcased her portraying a young pregnant woman. While many newbies opt for conventional debut roles, Alaya F didn’t think this role was unconventional in any way. “Playing a pregnant person, I didn't even think of it as unconventional. At the moment, it didn't even cross my mind. When I was doing promotional interviews for the film later on, that's when people were like, ‘Hey, it's a pretty brave choice’ and I was like, ‘Is it really risky?’ Then, I started getting stressed. So I was like, ‘Oh, this is a risky thing I've done, then how will it turn out?’ And then luckily, it worked out really well.”
Jawaani Jaaneman is set in London, where 40-year-old Jazz lives a carefree Casanova life. Everything changes when Tia, a young woman who asserts she's his daughter, appears. Facing this revelation, Jazz resolves to transform his frivolous ways and embrace a more responsible lifestyle.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Alaya F will next star in Sri alongside Rajkummar Rao and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff and Manushi Chhillar.
