EXCLUSIVE: Akashdeep Sabir speaks about his scenes with Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani

Akashdeep Sabir, who recently played a cameo in Shehzada, speaks about his upcoming projects.

After directing numerous Bollywood films, filmmaker Akashdeep Sabir is now all set to act in his second innings. The director-turned-actor has a bunch of projects in his kitty, including Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Selfiee, Sam Bahadur and more. In a wholesome exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Akashdeep opened up about working on various projects while sharing his experience with co-stars.

On Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Sabir said, “I have only one important chunk and it is with Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh is just watching it. But my confrontation is with Alia. Alia is not only just a successful artist but a brilliant artist as well. I observed her initially. She always understands the mood of the scene first. Then she moulds herself completely into her character. And, she does it so effortlessly, it makes you feel that you are communicating with the character and not with Alia Bhatt. She makes her co-actor comfortable. And, also she is open to doing any amount of rehearsals you want. She performs her part naturally. When you see your co-actor doing their part so well, it eventually lifts up your performance as well. Alia is right up there in terms of performance.”

As he continued, he spoke about playing a role in Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur and added, “The kind of experience I had on the sets of Sam Bahadur, I was very keen to know how Meghna Gulzar will bring out the best in me. Vicky Kaushal is also a natural actor. So, you have to adopt the mood as they do. Otherwise, the director will keep asking for one more (take). Speaking of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, even though it was a small role, Karan Johar used to enact the scene. He gave attention to the details of my character. So when a performer like Alia gave a shot in front of me, I tried to match up to her and changed my style.”

He also played a significant role in the Anil Kapoor starrer web show, The Night Manager. He said, “Then I worked with Anil Kapoor and met him on the sets of The Night Manager. I told him that you are still the same. It felt like it was the first day of his work, he was that excited and focused. I was like - Oh My God! You are still like a newcomer facing the camera for the first time.”

He signed off by saying, “I didn’t have many scenes with Ranveer Singh. He brings so much energy to his scenes. He works on the tenth gear. All the other actors in Bollywood have seven gears, but he is the only one with ten.”
