EXCLUSIVE: “Our actors have too big an entourage now; at one time, at the maximum, hero ka ek secretary hota tha. Ya heroine ki mummy hoti thi. Ab 8 mummiyaan saath mein hoti hai!” – Farah Khan

Bollywood Hungama exclusively talked to Farah Khan about many topics on this special occasion. When asked about a trend she’d like to change in the industry, Farah Khan gave an interesting answer.

She said, “Our actors have too big an entourage now. We made fun of it in Om Shanti Om (2007). Now it has gone on another level, of how many people come with an actor on a set. Minimum 8 people are there in the actor’s team. Everything is micro-managed. Managers will decide what the actor will say in the shot, and which still can be used. Everything is now about hair, make-up and styling.”

This is a grouse that many in the industry, especially filmmakers, have. They remember the good-old days when they could call the hero or the heroine directly. Farah agreed and added, “Yeah, it was (possible to approach the actor directly). At the maximum, ek secretary hota tha. Ya heroine ki mummy hoti thiAb 8 mummiyaan saath mein hoti hai! It’s escalating to another level of ridiculousness.”

Farah Khan continued, “I was shooting for an ad with an actress, who’s not even a star. The hairdresser asked for Rs. 8 lakhs to do blow dry and rollers! The stylists are asking Rs. 6 lakhs a day. For what? To buy clothes from Zara and give! This is where the cost escalates and your movie doesn’t make money. Also, the amount of money spent is not shown in the movie. So, at some point, producers and directors need to come together and say, ‘Stop this nonsense’!”
