EXCLUSIVE: “Aamir Khan discussed Bhagavad Gita, Balasaheb Thackeray and Fandry with me,” says Laapataa Ladies actress Chhaya Kadam

In an exclusive chat, actress Chhaya Kadam reveals her first meeting with Laapataa Ladies producer and star actor Aamir Khan.

Filmmaker Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, which is produced by her, Aamir Khan and Jio Studios, has been receiving positive reviews from the critics and audience alike. Mainly starring Pratibha Ranta, Pratibha Goel and Sparsh Shrivastava, the movie is about two brides going missing from a train. Apart from them, the movie also stars Chhaya Kadam in the heartwarming role of Manju Mai, the snacks stall owner at a railway station.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, she revealed her first meeting with Aamir Khan, which happened during the film’s preparations. She said, “I was sitting with the dialect trainer in a room in Aamir’s residence. Kiran left the room for something. Then someone opened the door and said ‘Sorry, sorry’ and left. Then he came again, looked at me and said, ‘Hi Chhaya ji, milte hain hum.’ I was stunned to know that he was Aamir Khan. And he is saying sorry to me at his own place.”

Revealing what they chatted during their meeting, Chhaya Kadam said, “We kept chit-chatting for long. We spoke about Fandry (her Marathi film) and later on the Gita. He has read the whole Gita. Then we spoke about Balasaheb Thackeray. While talking, I mentioned that I could never meet Balasaheb Thackeray and he said, ‘Main bhi nahin mil paya.’”

She added, “This conversation had such a positive effect on me. There are some people who show only on social media that they are so different. But there are some who are the same in their personal lives too. Even the way Aamir treated me during the little promotion I did was amazing. It feels good when he asks things about you, when did you start acting, etc.”

Speaking about Aamir’s involvement in the film, Kadam said, “The shoot of the film started through me. He didn’t come on the set even once during my shoot. Daily there used to be a conversation between him and Kiran. Aamir used to look at the scenes and share his take on the day’s shoot.”

Kadam said that she is highly satisfied with how Laapataa Ladies has turned out to be. She feels this way because she is able to notice something new with each watch. “I recently saw the film for the third time. Each time, we notice newer things,” she said.
