In a recent interview, filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani made a shocking revelation about late actress Divya Bharti. He claimed that Divya refused to do his film Aankhen when she discovered that she was paired with Chunky Panday.
Divya Bharti REFUSED to be Chunky Panday’s heroine, threw a “Big tantrum”: Pahlaj Nihalani makes a SHOCKING claimIt all started when Nihlani recalled signing Divya Bharti for his film Shola Aur Shabnam, which David Dhawan directed. The film stars Govinda as the lead. As the conversation progressed further, the filmmaker was asked to comment on the speculations around Divya Bharti’s casting in Aankhen.
Nihalani said that he was originally planning to cast Divya opposite Govinda in his film Aankhen. However, he later decided to pair her with Chunky Panday and Ritu Shivpuri with Govinda. When Divya found out about this change in casting, she allegedly threw a tantrum and refused to do the film.
"She called me up and began threatening to do things. She threw a big tantrum, and summoned me," Nihalani said. "I went to meet her, and she said, 'I've heard that I'm opposite Chunky?' I said yes. She refused to do the film."
Nihalani's claim is surprising, given that Divya Bharti was a rising star then. She had already starred in several successful films, including Vishwatma and Shola Aur Shabnam. However, she was reportedly unhappy with being paired with Chunky Panday, who was known for his comedic roles.
Divya Bharti died in April 1993 after falling from the balcony of her apartment in Mumbai. She was 19 years old.
