Veteran filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has again weighed in on the runaway success of Dhurandhar, declaring that the Aditya Dhar-directed espionage thriller has metaphorically “kicked back” what he described as the “Southies invasion” into mainstream Hindi cinema. Varma’s comments on social media also teased the upcoming sequel, claiming that the second instalment will be even more intense and “terrify”.
Dhurandhar, which stars Ranveer Singh as an undercover agent and released on December 5, 2025, has not only dominated the box office but is also shaping ongoing industry conversations. The film has crossed the Rs 1000 crores worldwide mark — a milestone that cements its position as one of India’s most successful releases of the year.
Varma took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his unfiltered praise and bold predictions for Dhurandhar 2, which is scheduled for a March 19, 2026 release. In his post, he wrote: “THE FIRE BALL of the SOUTHIES invasion into BOLLYWOOD has been KICKED back by @AdityaDharFilms left foot, named #dhurandhar and now his right foot getting ready with #dhurandhar 2 … From what I saw of the 2nd part, if the 1st SCARED them, the 2nd will TERRIFY them.”

Directed by Aditya Dhar and backed by a strong ensemble, Dhurandhar follows an Indian intelligence operative’s covert mission against a gang in Karachi’s Lyari, with an emotional narrative woven through gritty espionage and character-driven action. The film’s cast also includes Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in pivotal roles.
