Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Zingaat’ from Dhadak dropped recently and it is a reprised version of the very popular CHARTBUSTER from Nagraj Manjule’s super hit Sairat. It already has a lot of expectations because the original went on to become a cult party number unifying the vernacular Marathi population with Pan India. Karan Johar therefore was going for an assured hit when he brought original music composers Ajay Atul of Sairat fame on board Dhadak. Finally, Dhadak’s ‘Zingaat’ has released and here is what we thought about it. While the music and the context of the song is same to its original version, here are key differences between the two versions.
1 – The premise of the song
So, ‘Zingaat’ comes at a key juncture in the movie and there is a massive twist awaiting masses post the song. In Dhadak too, the makers have maintained this. It is a party number post the whole tone of the narration changes. In Sairat, it is the lead actress’s brother’s birthday party where the song is played. Director Shashank Khaitan has maintained the same in Dhadak.
2 – Use of imagery
The song showcases the wealth and clout that the heroine’s family enjoys and Shashank Khaitan uses Nagraj Manjule’s technique if showing the actress’s brother cutting his birthday cake with a sword instead of a knife.
3 – The overall setting
The overall setting of the song is same as the original. The lead stars looking at each other coyly and dancing, the Janhvi Kapoor flirting from across the balcony, etc. premise is the same.
1 – Crackling chemistry between Ishaan and Janhvi
Sairat’s original couple Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru’s chemistry was not as natural and electric as Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor’s. They share natural camaraderie even off screen which is reflected on camera too.
2 – The lead actor’s profession and family background
Ishaan Khatter is shown sneaking out to attend a party at Janhvi Kapoor’s home from a make-shift, small time restaurant. It is clear that his father owns the eatery. In Sairat, Akash Thosar’s family are fisher folk.
3 – Different signature step
Farah Khan has given her own twist to the dance and has given us a crazy new step which is equally addictive!
