Two of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan won’t be seen clashing with their television shows in 2018. For the last few years, especially on public holidays, we have seen many big films of top stars clashing with each other. But now, it seems there will be an exception for the Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, who host their respective shows on television. While talks on Aamir’s show Satyamev Jayate are still in very nascent stages, Shah Rukh Rukh’s TED Talks India: Nayi Soch will be aired from December 10 this year. Aamir’s earlier shows have been shown on Star Plus and TED Talks will also be aired on the same channel on Sundays at 7 pm.
Says a trade source, “Aamir’s show would come on Sundays in the morning, but Shah Rukh’s show has been given the evening slot for the same day. So even though Aamir’s show is yet to begin, and talks are at extremely preliminary stages, the clash has been avoided. A clash on primetime TV means splitting audiences, affecting TRP’s and revenues. It is to be noted that both Aamir and Shah Rukh have rekindled their friendship in recent times and apart from the economic part, for personal reasons too, an averted clash means all sides can heave a sigh of relief.”
The trade source adds, “It will be interesting to note whether Satmev Jayate happens at all or not next year or till TED Talks is aired as both shows are somewhat similar in content. SJ looks at various issues that afflict our society today and focused on sensitive social issues prevalent in India including female foeticide, child sexual abuse, rape, honour killings, domestic violence, alcoholism etc. It not only empowered citizens with information about their country, but also urged them to take action. In TED Talks, every episode will have a specific theme and will also focus on social problems within India – but with a difference - urging people to seek solutions.”
The source opines, “Aamir is looking for issues affecting society and till he finds something satisfactory, he won’t be beginning Satyamev Jayate till then. Also right now, he is deeply involved in the work of Paani Foundation which was set up by Aamir and Kiran and works towards creating a drought-free Maharashtra. Everyone knows how passionately committed the star is to his work and will only take up something to which he can give his 100 per cent time and effort to, so besides a few prelim talks with the Star Plus channel, Satyamev Jayate is temporarily on hold at the moment.”
TED Talks will be shown in eight episodes of one hour duration and each one featuring different speakers from India, U.S. and U.K. Among various speakers across a cross panel of various sections of society, some include Google CEO Sundar Pichai, filmmaker Karan Johar, screenwriter-lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar, television and film producer Ekta Kapoor, and Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj.”
