“You can’t see Salman Khan in a Tubelight or Shah Rukh Khan in a Zero. They will NEVER be characters in a film” – Sajid Khan : Bollywood News

Sajid Khan, last seen in Bigg Boss, gave a rare interview to a YouTube channel ‘Timeout With Ankit’ wherein he spoke about stardom in our industry. He began by saying, “At times, your body of work becomes bigger than your reputation.”

“You can’t see Salman Khan in a Tubelight or Shah Rukh Khan in a Zero. They will NEVER be characters in a film” – Sajid Khan

He emphasized, “Amitabh Bachchan became a superstar in 1977 and not 1973 (as believed). In 1978, he gave the biggest hit of his career, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. So, from 1977 to 1998, he was numero uno. But whenever he tried to do alternate cinema, that film would flop. This is because he became a slave to his own superstardom.”

Sajid Khan continued, “Stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, etc, are fighting their own shadows of superstardom. Hence, you can’t see Salman in a Tubelight (2017) or Shah Rukh in a Zero (2018). They will never be characters in a film. They’ll always be Salman Khan or Amitabh Bachchan or superstar Rajinikanth. The same applies to certain directors.”

At a later point, Sajid Khan was asked about his favourite actors. He answered, “I like all the three Khans, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar. Ranbir Kapoor is not only a dear friend and I feel somewhere, the future lies with him. The connection he has with the audience (is commendable). And he’s not on social media.”

Sajid Khan turned director with Heyy Babyy (2007), starring Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Vidya Balan. On this, he narrated, “Riteish Deshmukh, my co-writer and friend Milap Zaveri and I went to see Heyy Babyy’s 3:00 pm show at PVR on the day of its release. We saw the reactions and then we came out and at the canteen area, we started dancing (and singing), ‘Hit ho gayi, hit ho gayi’! All three of us needed a hit. It was my first film. Milap had given 6-7 flops as a writer. Riteish also didn’t have too many successes. Hence, hum log pagal ho gaye the! Those coming out from the other screen were wondering ‘Yeh teeno kyun naach rahe hai?’. I wish we had (recorded) this moment.”
