A special event was held in Chennai on Wednesday, January 7 to celebrate the 73rd birthday of actor-director K Bhagyaraj and also celebrate his 50 years in cinema. Some prominent celebrities of the Tamil film industry graced the occasion like Rajinikanth and many others. The Hindi film industry was represented by two noted personalities, namely producer Boney Kapoor and actor Jackie Shroff.

Boney Kapoor reveals FASCINATING trivia at K Bhagyaraj’s 50-year celebration event: “Anil Kapoor was to headline Darling Darling Darling Hindi remake; ‘Kaante Nahin Kat Te’ was originally meant for the remake”

Boney Kapoor’s speech at this event was memorable as he revealed that there were plans to remake K Bhagyaraj’s much loved 1982 film Darling Darling Darling. Incidentally, it was not only directed by K Bhagyaraj but also starred him and his wife, Poornima Bhagyaraj, in leading roles. Boney also opened up on Darling Darling Darling-Mr India (1987) connection.

Boney revealed that Raj Kapoor at one point was to remake Darling Darling Darling in Hindi, “I thought it would be better if I made the two giants meet. That’s how I took him to Raj uncle’s house. They had a healthy conversation and the topic of Darling Darling Darling came about. Incidentally, he (K Bhagyaraj) also desired to remake Darling Darling Darling with Anil.”

Boney Kapoor then said that ‘Kaante Nahin Kat Te’ was originally meant for the Hindi remake of Darling Darling Darling. Boney revealed, “But because that film was not made and I had that tune in my mind, I used that song in Mr India. In other words, ‘Kaante Nahin Kat Te’ also has a contribution from Bhagyaraj. So, I can go on talking about his contribution to our career.”

Talking about his brother and Mr India lead Anil Kapoor, Boney Kapoor confessed, “It’s unfortunate that Anil could not join me today. He wanted to. In fact, he had confirmed his presence to Poornima, thinking that the function is in December. This is because Poornima had started inviting people from December onwards (laughs). Anil probably assumed that it was on December 7 and that’s how he gave his nod. Later, he realized that the function was to take place on January 7, not December 7. Today happens to be his new film’s launch. That’s the reason he couldn’t make it. I apologize on his behalf to the Bhagyaraj family.”

Anil Kapoor had worked in K Bhagyaraj’s Mr Bechara (1996), co-starring Sridevi. It was the remake of the director’s 1994 Tamil film Veetla Visheshanga. Boney Kapoor signed off by saying, “I’ll always be indebted to him and his family. Whatever little we have achieved, he has been a major contributor to it.”
