Vishnu Induri, Shibasish Sarkar, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Dil Raju, Aanand L Rai, Manmohan Shetty, Navraj Hans, Lakshmi Manchu, Ankur Garg, Manish Goswami, Madhu Bhojwani, Khushbu Sundar, Manoj Tiwari, Ashish Singh, Shridhar Pillai, Taran Adarsh and Rohit Shetty attended the launch of the Indian National Cine Academy (INCA) in Mumbai. It is expected to serve as a national cinematic institution aimed at bringing together all Indian film industries on a single, unified platform. Envisioned as a long-term institution for Indian cinema, INCA aims to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, transparency, and credible recognition across languages, regions, and crafts. Industry stalwarts from Pan-India assembled for it and it led to some fascinating revelations.

Manoj Tiwari came on stage and he got a lot of applause as he said, “I worked in a Bhojpuri film in 2004. It was made in Rs. 30 lakhs and it ended up doing a business of Rs. 54 crores! Yet, neither the director got a single award nor its writer was honoured (laughs). Even the actor (himself) didn’t win any award. Hence, I’d like to thank Vishnu.”

The writer asked Manoj Tiwari about this film. He told us, “That film was Sasura Bada Paisawala (2004).”

Manoj Tiwari continued, “We have always been told in this country ki hamesha ek lambi line kheench dijiye. Woh Vishnu ne kiya hai. I am fully aware of the capability of Mr Vishnu Induri. We in Bihar do watch Hindi cinema. We are a population of 34 crore Bhojpuri residents. We did not know who worked in Chennai or Hyderabad. Vishnu gave us a platform and now we know everyone. Hence, I believe that INCA is a big step and it’ll be something to watch out for.”

Aanand L Rai, fresh out of the success of Tere Ishk Mein, remarked, “I got an opportunity to work with A R Rahman sir on a number of films. He used to record songs in Hindi and then Dil Raju used to dub the tracks in Tamil and Telugu. When I used to listen to those dubbed songs, I used to feel very new about it. Language is such a beautiful thing. The same song in a different language can change your vision. It gives you a different perspective. As a storyteller, I always feel that there are a number of stories that die within you because you are treating it as a one-language venture. For instance, you might feel that justice would be done to your script if you make it in Bengali. But I can’t necessarily go there and make it.”

He added, “Hence, I feel this initiative will help makers like me to tell a lot of stories. I feel very sorry that it’s happening so late. If it had happened 10 years ago, I would have told 10 or 12 more stories.”
