He is the only man in India who can get away with calling the President of America, Mr Barack Obama, a black man. Does anyone take him seriously? No. Yes, that’s right. It’s hard to say when he is and when he isn’t. And to make a living, this is what he does best: as a comic actor, he tightropes between honesty and sarcasm and never falls: he does embarrassing things but he doesn’t embarrass the audience; he’s willing to make a fool of himself, but he never looks like a fool; and he mocks people and
phenomena for whom mockery is the highest tribute. After his best work, you don’t just want to applaud-you want to wolf-whistle and hold a lighter up in the air. UK’s Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama’s London correspondent Devansh Patel spoke to Cyrus Broacha on the phone. For reasons unclear to me, he decided he should talk about sex, insanity, cricket, obsession of seeing Kunal Vijaykar in a saree and his fixation with the South Mumbai location and his hope to line
maro Dia Mirza some day. For some, he is a man with a funny bone, a cracked-up-in-his-head guy. And then there are those who call him their hero. I fall in the latter brigade.
Your second film after 99. You sure it’s going to complete a ton?
No no no. I want to play this game and retire.
How nutty are you in real life?
Right now, it’s difficult to say because I don’t like men. I can’t stand them. But as far as Kunal is concerned, he is definitely more fruity and nutty.
I’m trying to sort out money to take my kids on a holiday & I have to tell my wife about my girlfriend
Do you have any plans sorted in your big head as to what you want to do
I was doing my Law degree and at the same time working for an advertising agency when this whole circus started. I had no time to plan. I don’t still. Right now, I’m fighting for three things: trying to sort out money to take my kids on a holiday, I have to tell my wife about my girlfriend and lastly, survive this recession and come out clean in 2010.
How often do you watch cinema on the television?
I don’t get access to the television for two reasons: One is that there is too much cricket and I can’t stop watching it. I am a true cricket lover. Whether it’s on MTV or radio, newspaper, etc, it’s just cricket. Cricket is what we breathe, drink and eat in this country. By the way, what was your question?
I’m sure this isn’t the end of your acting career?
No re! Never. I want to work more in South Mumbai. I can’t travel two hours everyday up and down, North to South. We shot 99 mostly in South Mumbai and half the film in Delhi. It’s easier for me to get to Delhi than to travel all the way to Andheri and shoot. Kunal and I have the same habits. We both love to shoot in South Mumbai. My kids tell me, ”Daddy, you have to work”. I’m thinking, when I didn’t have them, I was working to have them. When I have them, it’s still the same.

What about fantasizing a woman like Dia Mirza in a saree?
I used to at one point in time. But after seeing Kunal Vijaykar in a saree, day in and day out, it gives me many images, you know! It spoils my brain. Now he has become very successful at playing a woman.
What about Dia? Was she sexy to work with?
Yes. She was fun to work with but we couldn’t find her in the theatre while we were watching our film. Unfortunately, Kunal was line marofying her more than me. But I will take Kunal’s position some day.
What about Boman?
See, Boman is my junior in theatre. When he first came in, I was one of his supporters. I liked him immediately. That guy has got a lot of talent. Then he started being too over friendly and I hated him from that day.

You play a loser in the film.
There is a lot of anger in me while I played my character. He gets kicked, abused, stabbed, pushed, etc. I think it was Kunal’s anger on me which he was trying to portray. It does happen to a lot of people. I’m not complaining.
What’s the most interesting job you’ve ever done?
It was for MTV in Singapore where I had to fit in for Rahul Khanna. I had to do a shoot where they had sex in the bed. It wasn’t completely sex-sex but I was under the bed sheet and on my pillow. It was everything I wanted to do which is basically nothing.
What’s Fruit and Nut?
