Kicking off the second panel of the day are actors and social media sensations Amyra Dastur, Rahul Dev, Tanisha Mukerji and Adhyayan Suman who tackled a core question that often plagues fashion enthusiasts: Style vs. Fashion – Two sides of the Same Coin or Distinct Facets? While both are undoubtedly intertwined with personal expression, the distinction between style and fashion is crucial.

Talking about social media and the perception it builds, Tanisha Mukerji said, “I think filters on social media are fun. It is lovely for as long as you are not taking it too seriously. There is image perception that is getting altered like I am looking myself in the mirror and altering through filter and then I think I need a nose job or I want to remove eye bags or get Botox fillers because I want to look like that person in filter. I think it is scary and dangerous for the kids. At the end of the day, I have 6 nephews and nieces and they are school-going kids. And it is scary that they are looking at their faces through the lens of camera or these filters and they are looking at their true selves through mirror. The perception is distorted.”
She went onto add, “I think it is important to put filters in right context and specially for the youth of this country. Because social media is so viral, the conversations should be going out is that you are beautiful.”
Recalling her sister Kajol from earlier days, she said, “I remember when Kajol came first on screen, I remember there was so much conversations around her unibrow. But Kajol did not remove it. She was like, ‘No, why should I change myself. I am beautiful in just the way I am.’ And that became trademark for her. And it still exists and it still has not threaded her unibrow. Over time, the world will accept you and yourself.”
She continued, “I think it is important to keep your identity strong; make your identity with intelligence, your values, integrity, and don’t create that identity simply because of your face.”
