The Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit and Awards 2024 was held today, May 2. The panel discussions ended with a bang as the team of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar came on stage, comprising Fardeen Khan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chadha and Taha Shah. They spoke about being a part of the iconic Netflix show and working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Manisha Koirala and Fardeen Khan opened up on the visionary filmmaker’s extreme love for dogs.
Manisha Koirala said, “I got to know him during 1942: A Love Story (1994). He was writing his script at that time and he directed me in Khamoshi (1996). Over the years, what I have noticed is that he’s like that child in Cinema Paradiso (1988) who fantasizes about cinema. He aspired to make brilliant films. He’s born to do that.”
She continued, “He lives on sets. He goes home just to sleep and to make sure that his mother is okay (smiles). He’s the most hard-working person I know. He’s rattled up when people don’t match up to his level of passion. We probably have a life outside the sets. We have other things to do. He doesn’t. His sole focus is cinema.”
She then revealed, “The other thing I noticed about him is that he’s the kindest soul. On the sets of Heeramandi, we had 30-40 dogs and all were looked after so well. I feel only a kind and considerate soul would do so. I have seen people being unkind (to animals) when someone crosses a path. But on his set, every animal was really looked after.”
Sonakshi Sinha, at this point, said, “There was a dog whom he named Jaanu. If he’d walk into the set, Sanjay sir would lovingly exclaim, ‘Jaanu’! You see a different side of him, which is very cute!”
Fardeen Khan, meanwhile, confessed, “When things didn’t go as planned and when he was frustrated, the ADs would send at least 4 dogs on the sets (laughs)! That would calm him down immediately. In 10 minutes, everything will be fine.”
Sonakshi Sinha replied, “Sanjay sir is going to see this clip. Those poor ADs would now not be able to use this trick!”
The second edition of the Macho Hint presents Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit and Awards 2024 in association with Cinema Waale Film and Television Productions LLP and Across Media Solution, is slated to be held on May 2, 2024, at Taj Lands’ End in Mumbai.
