Bollywood didn’t have a favourable 2022. So, before the start of 2023, many didn’t know what to expect from the new year. But what actually transpired at the box office made it one of the best years for the industry. Apart from some biggies starring the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol and Ranbir Kapoor, the year also saw some mid-size to low-budget films triumphing at the box office. Bollywood Hungama has come up with the Best of 2023 honours for those who had a winning 2023.

Part 4 of Bollywood Hungama’s Best of 2023 looks at the best films of the last year. Last year would be remembered for Shah Rukh Khan bouncing back with Pathaan and later Jawan. The latter is judged as the Best Film of the year. The movie was not just entertaining but also had a hard-hitting social message. The film’s director Atlee Kumar has walked away with the Best Director honour.

The Best Film Critics went to Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s surprise hit 12^th Fail while the Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2 and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal was adjudged Path Breaking Film.

Best Film – Jawan

Jawan continued Shah Rukh Khan’s winning streak after the success of Pathaan. The film is not just an entertainer. It also gave timely social messages through its storyline of a vigilante father-son duo.

Best Film (Critics’) - 12th Fail

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12^th Fail told a moving tale of a real IPS officer by keeping things simple. The film was also blessed by a heartfelt performance by Vikrant Massey.

Best Director - Atlee - Jawan

Going by the end product of Jawan, this honour for Atlee doesn’t come as a surprise. The filmmaker handled a difficult subject with relative ease.

Path Breaking Film – OMG 2 and Animal

OMG 2 was way different than its predecessor OMG Oh My God. The film dealt with the challenging subject of sex education in a respectful and mature manner. Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal produced by Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani defied all odds at the box office to emerge as the winner.
