In a deeply moving tribute to his departed friend, superstar Rajinikanth conveyed his appreciation to the government for bestowing the Padma Bhushan posthumously upon actor-politician Vijayakanth. Rajinikanth's heartfelt message, aired on Vijayakanth’s Captain News channel, was a poignant blend of gratitude and reverence, reflecting on Vijayakanth’s extraordinary accomplishments. The emotional resonance of Rajinikanth's words mirrored the collective admiration and sense of loss felt by many.

The Padma Bhushan, accepted on behalf of Vijayakanth by his wife Premalatha and son in New Delhi from President Droupadi Murmu, stands as a testament to his enduring legacy and contributions to the arts and public service.

Rajinikanth expressed gratitude for Vijayakanth's acknowledgment, highlighting the importance of his inclusion in the elite list of awards. He described Vijayakanth as more than a colleague, but as a close friend whose absence is severely lamented.

When discussing Captain's legacy, Rajinikanth stated that the DMDK chief's death on December 28, 2023, left a vacuum in the hearts of many.

“The central government honored the late actor and my friend, Vijayakanth, with Padma Bhushan. On top of that, the Padma 2024 books will have his history, marking a celebratory occasion. It’s a top honor for him, but it’s hard to believe he’s no longer with us. There will be no one like him. I miss him so much,” Rajinikanth remarked, paying homage to Vijayakanth’s indelible mark as a ‘Madurai veeran’ (warrior).

The video, which is currently spreading on social media, expresses Rajinikanth's feelings. Vijayakantha, lovingly known as Captain by his supporters and party members, died on December 28 after a protracted illness. On September 14, 2005, Vijayakanth defied his party, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, after making a significant impression in Tamil cinema. Between 2011 and 2016, he led the opposition to J Jayalalitha's government.
