Prime Video recently unveiled the trailer of its upcoming psychological crime thriller Daldal, and Bhumi Pednekkar’s portrayal of Mumbai Police DCP Rita Ferreira has already sparked conversation. Known for consistently choosing roles that push boundaries, Bhumi takes on one of her most demanding characters yet by stepping into the shoes of a police officer for the first time in her career.

Ahead of the show’s global premiere, the actress spoke about her long-standing admiration for the Mumbai Police and the weight of responsibility that came with portraying an officer on screen. Growing up in the city, Bhumi said the role carried a personal significance beyond performance.

“Growing up in Mumbai, I’ve always been a huge admirer of Mumbai Police. Their courage, discipline, and sense of duty are woven into the fabric of the city,” she shares. “Playing a Mumbai Police officer made me appreciate, on a very human level, the responsibility they carry every single day, often without recognition. Stepping into that uniform came with immense respect, and it’s something I’ll carry with me long after Daldal.”

However, what makes Rita Ferreira stand out is not just her authority but the vulnerability beneath it. Bhumi revealed that while the uniform symbolised power and clarity, it also brought an unexpected emotional challenge.

“While the uniform symbolised authority, responsibility, and moral clarity, it was also deeply intimidating because my character, Rita Ferreira, doesn’t feel fully secure in that authority. She is constantly questioning whether what she’s achieved is because of her merit or because of her gender. That quiet internal battle of ‘Do I really deserve this?’ is something she carries while presenting herself as composed and capable.”

The actress added that it was this internal conflict and moral ambiguity that drew her to the role the most. “What truly drew me to the role was that Rita isn’t black or white. She exists in the grey - flawed, human, and morally complex. As an audience, you’re never entirely sure where she’s headed or what she’s capable of, and I felt that same unpredictability while reading the script. That ambiguity is what made the role so exciting for me.”

Based on Bhendi Bazaar by Vish Dhamija, Daldal is directed by Amrit Raj Gupta and produced by Vikram Malhotra and Suresh Triveni under the banner of Abundantia Entertainment. Alongside Bhumi Pednekkar in the lead, the series also stars Samara Tijori and Aditya Rawal in pivotal roles.

Daldal is set to premiere on Prime Video on January 30, streaming in India and across 240 countries and territories worldwide, promising an intense, character-driven crime drama anchored by Bhumi Pednekkar’s compelling performance.
