The initiative, titled #DriveHerFuture, was launched by Asif Bhamla and Saher Bhamla of the Bhamla Foundation on June 1, 2026, at Jamnabai Narsee School. The programme focuses on providing support for 1,000 women through pink e-rickshaws, with the objective of creating new livelihood opportunities and encouraging greater economic independence.

Bhumi Pednekar, who has frequently associated herself with environmental and social causes, lent her support to the campaign alongside Amruta Fadnavis. Both have been vocal advocates for initiatives related to sustainability, community welfare and women’s empowerment, making their involvement a notable aspect of the programme.

According to the organisers, the Pink E-Rickshaw Support Initiative has been designed to help women gain access to income-generating opportunities while promoting environmentally conscious transportation solutions. The initiative is being undertaken in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Speaking about the larger vision behind the project, the Bhamla Foundation highlighted the importance of creating practical solutions that can directly impact lives. The initiative aims to provide beneficiaries with greater mobility, financial stability and an opportunity to pursue self-employment.

Over the years, the Bhamla Foundation has been associated with a range of social and environmental programmes. Among its notable initiatives is the Supergirls of Tomorrow scholarship programme, which supports the education of girls from BMC schools. The foundation has also organised several beach clean-up campaigns across Mumbai and has actively participated in environmental drives such as #EkPedMaaKeNaam and #NowForClimate, both focused on tree plantation and sustainability awareness.

The launch of #DriveHerFuture marks another addition to the foundation’s portfolio of community-focused initiatives. By combining women’s empowerment with sustainable mobility, the programme seeks to address both economic and environmental concerns.

For Bhumi Pednekar, whose advocacy work often extends beyond cinema, the initiative aligns with causes she has consistently championed. Her participation, alongside Amruta Fadnavis, has helped bring wider visibility to the campaign as it aims to create opportunities for women across communities.

As the programme rolls out, the focus will remain on enabling women to access new avenues of employment while fostering greater independence through sustainable transportation solutions.
