One of the oldest and most know production houses of India, Yash Raj Films have not just been instrumental in entertaining India but also in taking Indian entertainment to the world. It is because of Yash Raj films that many fashion trends have been ingrained in our wardrobes even today. Along with the timeless romance that their movies are known for we also got timeless fashion. Here are some of the fashion trends that the brand YRF has been instrumental in setting.

Chiffon Sarees:

The whole concept of the leading lady dancing on a snowy hill top with a simple pastel Chiffon Saree flowing uncontrollably in the air - you know immediately that it’s a Yash Raj Film. Who can forget the evergreen Sridevi as Chandni running across the green pastures of Swiss Alps in her iconic yellow saree or Rekha again as Chandni in Silsila wearing beige or white saree with a simple pearl necklace. Yash Chopra made women look elegant and graceful.

White Ensembles:

In India an all white outfit is not the go to outfit for festivities or happy occasions. This is something that both Sridevi and her mother pointed out to Yash Chopra when he wanted Sridevi to wear an all white ensemble for the movie Chandni. Yashji simply asked the women to have faith in him as a director and the rest is history. Chandni’s white chudidaar with white bindi became such a rage that even today it’s called the Chandni look. Yashji’s love for all white ensembles was also reflected in Dil Toh Pagal Hai, when Madhuri Dixit Nene as Pooja was seen in the green meadows running in the iconic white salwar suit.

Babli Style:

If you are a girl who has lived through the early 2000’s then it is imperative that you had at least one dhoti like pant with short-collared kurta and cuffed dupatta on it. Rani Mukherjee along with her bright salwar suits became iconic with the release of YRF’s Bunty aur Babli in 2005. Every tailor, every showroom in India advertised the fact that they either stitch or have the Babli outfit. It was the most obvious thing back then.

Mohabbatein Sweater:

It is not just the leading ladies but also men in Yash Raj Films who have set trends like leather jackets and dark glasses. But one of the most iconic style has been that of Shah Rukh Khan as Raj Aryan Malhotra in Mohabbatein. Those thin-rimmed glasses, formal attires and sweater always on the shoulder with the sleeves dangling in front were prominent. Just that style of not wearing a sweater but resting it on your shoulder was also so loved by audience that soon you’d see India doing it as if it were the most natural thing to do. Even today if you wear the sweater like that and walk, you can hear in your head duniya mein kitni hai nafratein…

Athleisure Wear:

Typically wearing workout clothes for everyday wear is what the term athleisure stands for. Who can forget the gorgeous Karishma Kapoor as Nisha in Dil Toh Pagal Hai dancing and roaming around in her super stylish athleisure or even Shamita Shetty as Ishita in Mohabbatein posing in her sultry athletic body adorned with athleisure style. We also saw Anushka Sharma as Taani ji grooving to ‘Dance Pe Chance Mar Le’ in her iconic bellbottom pant and fitted tank top. These movies bought about the trend of athleisure into Indian wardrobes.
